I took the Perth clock photo in April 2018 when it showed 11.50 so it appears to have taken 20 months to work it's way to 12 noon. On that basis it progresses 30 seconds per month. That's almost time standing still, a bit like Perth station itself!

Its the single bay platform at the North end between platforms 4 & 7 at the top of the picture.
I do not disbelieve you but ...can you track these moves on RTT . There is a location Perth CAFP which I take to be a fuel point but no moves ever seem to be shown . Also there is Perth CSD which has one move per day , in at 1439 and out at 2252 , is this the shed at the north end of 3 ?
There is also a ref to a carriage washing point which I assume is where locos use to stable behind the wall ?
In my minds eye there is a through loop starting at the north end of the platform which handles Inverness arrivals to the south of the station , does anything ever use this ?

For all of your information - the nighshift that the signalman puts in at Perth is one of the busiest in the country due to the number of train movements within the station on a normal night. AFAIK the fueling road is still operational. The proposed (but now canned) yard at Muiton had an interim stage that would fuel rolling stock from road mobile tankers!

Carriage wash can be see below:-

Newquay, what is left is nothing short of an embarrassment for rail travel

Greenock Central doesn't win, but it deserves a dishonourable mention because (unlike with places like Carstairs), there's just enough left to tease you with what once was.

Don't get me wrong on Perth. It's a fascinating and vibrant rail centre 24/7 with not a redundant space to be seen. The staff culture is fantastic, especially in the ticket office.

The problem is that it's also a huge spectacular ghostly dump of a station. The two things together make it unique. It's probably the closest thing to the steam era we have, albeit with late 1950s colour light signalling and modern stock coming and going. Love it and hate it all at the same time!

I was in that budget craft/bookshop "The Works" in Ayr at the weekend and they have "Britain's 100 Best Railway Stations" in their bargain bin for £8, guess what is one of their top ranked stations - yes, Perth!!
