Depends what part of TfL you’re joining.

For example TfL Rail and Lonson Overground get FIP cards but LU do not.

With TfL Rail you will receive a TfL Staff Pass for use on the Underground, Overground, TfL Rail, Buses, Trams and Inter-available NR services such as Upminster to Fenchurch Street. For duty travel only you can use Greater Anglia services between Stratford and Shenfield.

You also get a PRIV ticket which gets you 75% off leisure travel. To apply for a 75% off residential season ticket you will need to use a form and send it off to the RDG (formally ATOC). Once approved you take this to your ticket office and buy the ticket.

You'll also get a FIP card after a year which you can use for free and reduced international travel - mainly in Europe.

No trouble. From that neck of the woods I feel you'd need a ticket from Chatham all the way to London Terminals as there is no TfL options from that side of the water. (If you were going to Abbey Wood it would be from Chatham to there or Plumstead).

No - unfortunately TfL staff passes are not valid on Southeastern services. You'd need a ticket all the way into London Terminals if travelling to HQ near Liverpool Street. You could get a ticket to Greenwich and then transfer to the DLR to Bank and walk, but that would limit your travel options and extend your travel time.

No trouble. It is an all zone pass, however, not valid on traditional national rail services - with a few exceptions. When you start you are given your Oyster card and a piece of paper which confirms where you can (And can't) go.

The 75% off your season ticket price is still a nice discount.

You download a form and send it to the RDG. They authorise it and you take it to the ticket office and you just pay the 25% of the full cost. So no paying back needed.

So you're saying that new entrant TfL Rail staff get a PRIV card whereas LUL staff do not ?

New LUL staff get a TfL Staff Oyster. They also get access to preferential rates on the Eurostar. And a 75% reimbursement on point to point season tickets on the railways as long as it's between place of work and home. Some TOCs offer Priv rate season tickets to LU staff.

The only LU staff who get a Priv are those who have the safeguarded benefits from starting prior to April 1996.

TfL Rail and LO are members of the Rail Delivery Group so participate in the Priv scheme like other TOCs.

Hi Guys, with regards to Residential travel, i start with mtr in April and live in Camberley Surrey. As i understand it staff are able to travel free on GWR in uniform etc from reading to PAD and get an oyster for the rest. My question is that im travelling from blackwater to reading first, can i apply for a residential just for the 1st part of the route? The form asks for my workplace/ destination but i dont need discount for that part because i get it free. I just need discount between blackwater and reading.

Also can i apply before i start or do i have to wait until April 1st?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi.

You can get the reduced priced season ticket for just the bit you require, however, from memory, we had to wait for a month before getting the reduced price as we had to produce a PRIV card at the booking office and complete the form you need.

I’m based in the East so I’m not sure about the travel concessions in the West with GWR, however, the last I heard it only went so far - not to Reading, but they may have changed now they are testing over there.

Thanks for your reply. I think the oyster starts from west Drayton but my dad travels on mtr free and believe we travel on GWR free (gentlemans agreement) type thing. So i should be ok from reading but im sure il find out soon enough.

Thats good about the residential ill just get from blackwater- reading

No worries. We used to get free leisure, residential and duty travel with GA on the east, however, that was cut back to duty only last year. May be the same for the west with GWR. Good luck with MTR - it is a great company to work for.

Duty travel is travel whilst you are working. Travelling to work is residential travel.

I know it’s a response to a old msg but MTR staff can use SouthEastern between Abbey Wood and London Bridge- An agreement by both TOCs.

Just double checked and the duty travel agreement still stands between Abbey Wood and London Bridge on Southeaster, Reading and Paddington on GWR and Shenfield and Stratford for duty purposes only.

So no residential travel, unfortunately.

I purchase a priv season ticket to Shenfield from further East then use the Tfl Rail service from there to work.

Cheers for the reply. Does anyone know if bus drivers in London are entitled too or can get any discount on greater Anglia or c2c trains?

Unfortunately they are not entitled to GA or C2C. If the bus operator runs TFL operated routes, drivers get the normal TFL bus operator pass for TFL service. No Priv card.
