I've had a reply from SWR on Facebook. They are running buses between Eastleigh and Southampton. Still no mention of them on the website though.
Well this on the the website , and its says buses for Sunday and Monday......

If travelling from Chandlers Ford to Fratton, the easiest journey will most likely now be Chandlers Ford > Southampton Central > Fratton - whilst not a permitted route, would this to be accepted? The alternative is changing at Parkway, travelling up to Eastleigh and then waiting for the hourly service via Botley which when I just checked adds around an hour onto journeys.

The line has now reopened, with some services running as booked (except calling Eastleigh). This is only where crew are in the correct place and some services are still being diverted via Havant.

I’d tend to agree, the normal Waterloo to Eastleigh services either go to Poole or Portsmouth, so stopping the Pooles short wouldn’t help passengers for further west much at all.

At the back of my memory from when Eastleigh has been used as a terminus from the Waterloo direction during engineering works, I think they’ve always arrived in P2 and shunted across to P1 via ground signal 222. The move directly into P1 might not be signalled to passenger standards, maybe someone could confirm?

That is correct, shunt moves into platform 1 towards the Limit of Shunt at the country end of platform 1 can only be ECS and made from position light signal E222 as far as I know. Platform 1 isn't approved for permissive working either (Attaching or detaching.)

1W80 has been put back on its normal route on a VSTP, currently sitting in ESL p1. Believe it's the first service today.
1W72 also VSTP SOU-WAT, passed through on UF a couple of hours ago.
Nothing on the down as yet AFAIK.

Just out of interest I noticed on the opentraintimes times map late last night that XC ECS Voyagers to the TRSMD were running through P1 towards Chandlers Ford, and reversing via ground signal 228 across into P3. (There’s a trailing crossover not shown on opentraintimes IIRC.)

Presumably that’s quicker than reversing at Allbrook Junction, which is a move sometimes made by EMUs.

That was my thinking. Would make better sense to come across to 228, rather than blocking the mains whilst changing ends.

One of my little gripes is that when we have incidents like the Eastleigh derailment involving very quick temporary timetables and bustitutuon is that many people are involved like bus/train drivers, train crews etc. Some are limited by law to the hours they can work ; all are entitled to decent breaks and of course may not be able to work the hours thats expected off them due to illness, family problems or prior commitment . SWR/XC etc are doing their best but need co-opertion workers of course. Ive never worked on the railways but was a minor union rep who understands needs of both sides. Rant over !!
Those who jumped down LeylandLen's throat for this please re-read. I didn't see this as a criticism of staff. More an acknowledgement that in situations such as this it is a herculean effort to replan a service. Especially as crew and train diagrams are not simple on SWR. Lots of people had posted previously about why SWR were only running BSK-WIN shuttles, not shifting crew hither and thither in taxis, etc. To me this was an attempt to make a reasoned explanation as to why it isn't that easy and it was making a point that to run a massively replanned service would need cooperation but there are lots of reasons why it wouldn't be possible.

Not everyone is out to bash frontline staff.

Ok I will reply here as it was I who first took exception.

LeylandLen said it was a gripe... surely that is a criticism which when put together with needing the co-operation of workers, reads as lack of co-operative workers due to the ongoing breakdown in industrial relations.
I may of interpreted it wrongly and if I have I then apologise to LeylandLen.

It is very easy to be over defensive given the amount of stick we get in here at times.

OK In response to #312 #313 and other posts. I think its healthy to have different points of view and a sensible conversion here. I respect what you say and not offended. My point was obviously that the derailment at Eastleigh was unexpected and SWT XC ,other TOCs the freight operators and Network rail ,as well as emergency services ( no-one injured, no apparent crime , or likelihood of fire) had to react very quickly and work with the co-operation of people ,I hope, like you and me just doing our best. Skilled people ,other workers and relevant equipment had to be bought to the site.People needed to man the phones ,reply on social media for passengers with questions. Buses, coaches, taxis had to be unexpectedly used to move people; all needing people, some new to the area, (workers, crews, and passengers) to move people. Some are, I believe, working 12 hour shifts to 'get the job done'.I believe some people were diverted from repairing the derailment and track near Barking, and delaying that work.
Anyway, I see 'Eastleigh' is more or less back to normal with temporary track until permanent work can be done.
Thanks to everyone involved . From what I see, passengers were kept informed via the media and Network Rail info.I know there are more important things to worry about (as in Streatham, China etc).

Do they have to find hotels for people to stay in, in such circumstances as this?

Postscript:
I had difficult and delayed journeys to and from Chichester last Thursday (30th).
I submitted my Delay Repay claims online on Friday (31st).
On Tuesday (4th) I received emails that my claims had been accepted and that vouchers were on their way to me.
The vouchers arrived in the post on Wednesday (5th).
Thanks to all concerned!

Just out of interest what are the arrangements for Eastleigh crew change on down freight at the moment? I'm assuming they can't just stop on a running line and change over? Or can they?

I’ve tried unsuccessfully to work it out using RTT or OTT, but it seems most schedules show everything happening as normal, including the note “stops for staffing reasons” occurring in either P2 or P3 at Eastleigh. It seems odd that with about 4 weeks of alterations expected that schedules haven’t been updated at all?

Also, on a slightly different point, I’ve noticed a few trains that had booked altered routes via Havant and Netley, but ended up running via Basingstoke and Eastleigh anyway, as seen by the missing reports between Reading and St Denys.

I think I can answer that. When a service is booked through/at a platform, and it calls at a different one, that will show up, in red usually. However, I find that if it passes on a through line, it tends not to say so. This is for RTT at least. Not sure about OTT.
With Railcam diagrams however, if it passes on the DF then it shows an 'F' in the realtime column.

The BBC's Paul Clifton (@PaulCliftonBBC) has tweeted that Network Rail have taken the blame. A bolt failed on a set of points, causing the track to spread under the train.

Network Rail's press release: https://www.networkrailmediacentre....ause-of-freight-train-derailment-at-eastleigh

Initial findings by Network Rail have found the cause of the incident to be an infrastructure fault, when a small number of fastenings gave way. This led to track spread - meaning that the two rails were no longer the correct distance apart.

This particular type of fastening is only used in a limited number of locations. Since the incident, Network Rail has conducted enhanced precautionary inspections of all similar fastenings across the Wessex route, with no additional areas of concern identified through this work.

Further to that, are they fixings specific to the Wessex route, given Network Rail mention checking them only in this region?

Believe its an issue with the particular method the housings are fixed into the concrete on this type of S&C. Its being checked nationwide.

Do they have full traceability with all these fixings across the country, or have they just got to go out and look for them in places?

So, I’m currently on the 23:05 Waterloo to Southampton Central calling at ... ... Eastleigh ...
I’ve been assured this is both correct and impossible! I wonder when they will change their mind about one of those points!

Well I just watched your service sail through Eastleigh so I'm hoping nobody was convinced to get on it who wanted to get off there! Or it'll be taxi time.

They are putting us in taxis at Central
That's good then. Definitely a breakdown in communication somewhere there, someone obviously doesn't realise there's bits of track still missing!

Big time. I’ve spent a good chunk of the week trying to plan what would actually happen including speaking to ticket office staff at Eastleigh, the staff running the coaches, national rail enquiries, SWR customer services and the guard on the train home. I’m kinda shocked that we got as far as Basingstoke before they announced we wouldn’t be stopping at Eastleigh and should continue to Southampton Central! The guard was lovely but even she didn’t twig that our itinerary wouldn’t work before I asked.
20 of us at Central for taxis to Eastleigh and on towards Fareham for those who would usually connect at Eastleigh.
Oddly out of all the options discussed (which included with a straight face suggesting I’d have to walk from Parkway) nobody said to carry on to Central, though that makes sense as it’s staffed.
