Completely off topic but I didn’t want to start a new thread: Has Mr Souter changed his views concerning the LGBT community? I was talking to an old friend who refused to take Stagecoach buses in Manchester during the 90’s due to Brian Souter’s support of section 21...

I’m not keen on the new livery. I think it will cause more confusion for passengers having 3 different liveries for the same company. The money could have been better off spent modernising some of the fleet.

Will it though? While some people are easily confused, this sounds to me like finding another reason to criticise. Most folk are simply looking out for a bus with "33 Town Centre" on the front at the right stop and at roughly the right time.

Already, Stagecoach buses in many towns come in two different colours - most are white but some are in a fancy blue livery. If you live in West Sussex, you can find white buses in a subtle variation and branded Coastliner and yet more which are allover green - these may be intended for the 1 and the 60, but like those allocated to the 700, they are by no means route-bound. People aren't standing aside and letting the 17 go past just because the bus isn't the right colour today.

That was the only reason apparently as it went past his house on the Glasgow Road. Nothing narcissistic about that at all...

Whilst it might seem like a nice conspiracy theory, it was actually chosen because the demographics of the 7 route fitted the original ‘Goldline’ model. Both ends of the route (Scone and Hillend) are relatively affluent parts of Perth, whilst the other frequent town services ran in more traditional ‘council housing’ bus territory.

Having read the bit about "people are confused about which bus to catch" I can't help but think they have utterly missed the point, and that Trent Barton style route branding (but retaining numbers) would be a far better way of addressing the criticism, plus better maps and publicity including online?

In other words, the precise polar opposite of what they have done, namely making all local buses look identical?

I know that's a one off adaption of the new livery, but I don't think it looks too bad at all. I've gone from thinking it's just ok to actually quite liking it the more I've seen it.

Imo that one off version looks much better than the standard one.

To try to be positive about the new livery for a moment, at least the "Stagecoach" beneath the windscreen is nice and visible - so many buses are predominantly black when viewed from the front - a prospective passenger at a bus stop may have no idea which operator is turning up (remember, there are places where a route number is used by different companies, so seeing the destination screen from a distance may not be sufficient reassurance as to precisely which service is turning up).

Having all of this funky livery on the side of the vehicle is all well and good (although it will get partly covered by an advert in most cases, spoiling any attempt at the "curve"), but put yourself in the position of a passenger queuing at a busy stop, unsure whether to get their wallet/ purse/ phone out - bus travel can be quite an anxious experience for ordinary people - so having a nice clear "Stagecoach" underneath the windscreen is a good thing (and something that wasn't as obvious from the press release pictures, given the angle they were taken from)

Stagecoach 11501 / SN69 ZRG by kieron mathews, on Flickr

Here is Stagecoach in Newcastle 11501 in a version of the new livery I took on Tuesday afternoon, this is a one off mosaic livery for this bus only.
That looks....ok.
My biggest nightmare is seeing it on the old X17s.
I've got even more of a reason to go to Northamptonshire to see those buses one final time now.

Is it me or does the new logo look like a Fairy Tidepod?

I wonder when the East Midlands repaints will begin? Can't wait to see the new livery in Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Hull etc.

I don’t, sorry - but if I were a betting man, I’d be putting my money on there being no Simplibus branding.
Good. The Simplibus branding is really starting to get on my nerves, whilst I love the concept of shortening the route numbers as low as possible, the branding starts to get a bit jarring. I've noticed in Grimsby that with the fleet of new buses they ordered in 2014 and put into Simplibus branding, some have been put into generic beachball branding.

It'll look nice in Lincoln seeing the Enviro MMCs they ordered in 2018 to conincide with the new bus station in the new livery.

Plus as well, in Scunthorpe, seeing as they are still clinging onto Darts from 2004 and 2006, plus East Lancs Vyking double deckers, it'll be rather interesting to see them in the new livery, but don't know if they've already started repainting any of them or if they'll do it later this year or sometime next year.

Finally, if they discontinue the Simplibus branding, it'll be nice to see the veichles in Scunthorpe in the new livery, a new timetable leaflet issued without any mention of Simplibus, but still using the same short route numbers.

As with First Barbie and then Olympia, the Beachball rebrand came with a new coordinated interior.

With the new livery nothing had been mentioned. Is the outdated and tacky looking orange and blue interior being continued, or is it being replaced by eg the blue and grey interior on recent deliveries to Manchester and Newcastle?

I'd suggest that the Darts and Vykings are due for withdrawal sooner rather than later and are more likely to be culled rather than repainted.

They're still working on the new interior design, the blue/grey is just a temporary thing.

I was told by one of the drivers the Vykings are going to be kept hold of for a little while longer yet due to their ideal size for Scunthorpe's variable road widths on the various routes.

Perhaps not in the next week but imagine they'll be heading off in due course. They are 15-16 years old so it's unlikely they'll be repainted.
