Why is it that VOSA has failed to deregister bus services which have either been revoked or the bus company which operated them no longer exists?

For example the Mackenzie bus & coach service (Coakley Mark ?) 107/109 was revoked but for some reason VOSA has failed to acknowledge that is no longer available.

Also please note that all Henderson bus services still seem to be registered as operating even although Henderson bus company no longer exists

The DVSA (as they're called this week, it might have changed again by the time you read this) system dosent revoke the separate service registrations which carry on showing as registered, so the only way of verifiing that they're operating is to enter the license number into a different search tool (as they don't provide embedded links on the bus registration search!):

https://www.vehicle-operator-licensing.service.gov.uk/search/find-lorry-bus-operators

Which then tells you the operator's license is revoked.

It should be pointed out the Scottish operations of this department are separate to rest of the UK.

The English operations are dreadful. I can only guess that the task is contracted out to someone on a pacific atoll. The database is riddled with errors, including services which have not been run for years even where the operator is still licenced. Yes, it is the operators responsibility to notify changes but the occasional purge would be beneficial. As would simple checks on spelling of origin, route points and destinations.
Given the drive to open-sourcing of the data, including fares, I have no hope of anything useful arising.

Each region has its own caseworker who is assisted by other team members at the main OTC offices in Leeds, and it is they who are responsible for the upkeep of the database. It can happen if something is overlooked, however the easiest way for an operator to realise if a registration/change/cancellation hasn't been processed is when they don't get a confirmation letter through in the post. If they don't then a simple email or phone call to the caseworker is all it takes.

As would simple checks on spelling of origin, route points and destinations.
Could be a simple case of misinterpreting someone's handwriting. But again, an operator can contact the caseworker to get things corrected.
