New private operator on this route. Way better bus with toilet and wheelchair access. Aaron’s bus. Timetable on google. Started this week. Decent bloke long overdue competition to stagecoach.

It does not appear to be working out that well. It did not operate one weekend recently, but the reason was not made clear when they posted about the cancellations. Currently they are using minibuses due to problems with the coach.

54251 and 47489 are being used on rail replacement services between Aberdeen and Dundee today, presumably doing it on behalf of LNER. Don't think stagecoach helped with the rail replacement services over the past 3 weeks

According to "Fleet News Scotland", in the February 2020 issue of Buses, Aarons coaches, Wick, recently sold Mercedes Benz Tourino BX07 NMM, but the destination of the coach wasn't given, just saying it left the fleet in November. Was this the troublesome coach, or has their been another troublesome coach?

Surely they haven't put on a Solo for Rail Replacement duties? I would be certainly unimpressed if a Solo turned up to take me from Aberdeen to Dundee.

Turns out 47489 was actually a buchanXpress coach according to the tracker, in total 3 coaches were used including a xplore dundee coach

Aarons of Wick are going to be putting in the paperwork to cancel the service, as it is loss making due to insufficient passenger numbers.

Service changes announced for Bluebird! Some really great stuff too...

Aberdeenshire Moray Timetable Consultation04 Feb 2020 to 16 Feb 2020

Stagecoach Bluebird is inviting customers to give feedback on proposed changes to timetables.

For a number of years, public feedback received during consultation has really shaped the local bus network offering better connections for the local communities to the places that matter most to them.

The proposals come following an extensive review of the network and travel habits in the area. Customer research has shown that many find travelling by bus confusing and difficult to understand and Stagecoach Bluebird hope that their revised timetables will make it much easier for non existing bus users to try travelling by bus. The consultation is open until Sunday 16th February with the new timetables proposed to begin operation on Monday 6th April 2020.

Changes in the Buchan area will see communities benefit from a revised network that has been designed to better meet the demand for services from the various towns in the area. A new town service will be introduced in Ellon as well as faster journey times to/from Aberdeen as a result of a reduction of the number of stops being served between Aberdeen and Tipperty.

In Inverurie journeys are also set to be quicker to Aberdeen with more service 10 journeys being introduced in line with customer demand. Services 37/X37 and 10 have served the town for years but the regular bus users know that their journey can be much quicker on service 10, so journeys using the 37 route have been reduced to meet demand and more service 10 journeys are to be introduced. Communities in Huntly and Keith will benefit from more journeys in the morning and afternoon peaks to address previous capacity issues on the popular bus service.

One of the biggest changes proposed comes for Kingswells, Countesswells and Westhill with service X17 being split to services 4, 5 and 6. The new routes will offer fast and frequent links to Aberdeen from Westhill, Prime Four and Kingswells Park and Ride. The service from Kingswells Park and Ride to the city centre is proposed to increase from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes. A route revision in Westhill will also see a reduction in journey times for getting to the city centre by bus. Residents in Countesswells will no longer have to change bus at Kingswells Park and Ride to get to the city centre as the bus will operate direct between Countesswells and Union Square Bus Station. More morning journeys have been introduced to offer commuters a more attractive service for getting to the city centre.

In Deeside, the service 201 timetable has been simplified for customers and the route variations have been reduced. As a result of this, it is proposed that Banchory will welcome back a local daytime town service connecting the most popular places in the town. Service to Lumphanan and Torphins has been reduced in line with customer demand, commuter journeys will be maintained with the off-peak journeys withdrawn.

The Stonehaven area will see some enhancements to the service they have access to with new X7 journeys providing the quickest link to Aberdeen by bus. These services will operate on a limited stop basis allowing the journey times to be enhanced overall. A new hourly route will be introduced connecting the new housing at Chapelton to Aberdeen via Newtonhill and Portlethen.

Following a year of low use, service 747 will be revised to operate only between Ellon and Aberdeen Airport. The section of route between Aberdeen Airport and Stonehaven is to be withdrawn. Journeys between Stonehaven and Montrose will revert to service 107.

Peter Knight, Managing Director for Stagecoach Bluebird said: “We are looking forward to hearing the views from our customers about our planned revisions to the bus network in Aberdeenshire. Everything we have planned is to best use our fleet of buses to meet the travel habits in the area as well as improving the punctuality of the services. Simplifying the network is something we know we need to do in Aberdeenshire in order to welcome more customers on board our buses and hope the local communities will take the time to provide us with their feedback and ideas.”

Feedback is welcomed from today until Sunday 16th February and can be submitted via email to [email protected] or at one of the events listed below.

53715 (in the new livery) has joined the fleet at Elgin to fill in while 54826 is LTR following a fatal RTC last month. Unsure if 53715 is here permanently or if it will return south once 54826 is back.

I'll keep an eye out for it when I'm in town tomorrow.

Any idea of the extent of the damage to 54826? It was a fairly nasty crash.

Any idea of the extent of the damage to 54826? It was a fairly nasty crash.

Not too sure, it's entirely possible that it may not enter service here again as the accident it was involved in was fatal and in the past protocol has been to transfer or withdraw any vehicle that's been involved in a fatal collision. Even the Astromega that was involved in the fatal RTC on the A90 last March is still sitting at a yard at Denmore (Aberdeen) awaiting to be released back to Stagecoach for repairs, it all comes down to how long the police investigation takes.

Hopefully once 54826 is back they'll retain 53715 as Elgin could really be doing with an Extra Elite, 10 vehicles is not enough to cover the 10. With the new timetable coming in too it'll be interesting to see what gets used on the short workings.

What type of vehicle is 53715?

Volvo B9R with Plaxton Elite bodywork.

It's the same coach that was used for the press launch photos of the new livery - https://www.stagecoach.com/media/news-releases/2020/2020-01-30.aspx

Service changes announced for Bluebird! Some really great stuff too...

https://www.stagecoachbus.com/servi...rticle?SituationId=ID-04/02/2020-07:32:39:957

I'll post a summary soon...

I hadn’t noticed this until I was heading home last night, overheard the driver and another going home chatting about it. Admittedly I’d had a few beverages and struggled to get my head round the changes

But having looked at them I can see some good out of them. Very keen on the express running of some of the Ellon to Aberdeen services, the frequent stops in the city slow the service and at peak times, it can be impossible to get on due to the number of folk simply jumping on and off parts of king street. I haven’t quite got my head round the myriad of services up that corridor now but looks good.

My big loss is the 747 being pared back to what the old service was. But I honestly felt like the only person that used it at times. A real shame now that I’ve taken a job at the airport and I’ll have to go by car now! But usage is so poor I understand the reason.

Interested to see how the Westhill services turn out, use them at times and it is a frustratingly slow service for the distance. Fingers crossed it speeds up a little, though poor infrastructure along the A944 needs addressed before any real improvement is seen...

The council looked at the figures and most have concluded it's not worth saving, it's a shame but what can you do. Bypass was built to take traffic away from Aberdeen.

It is an older version of the current 10 coaches, but a vast improvement on the elderly spare coach it is replacing.

53715 (in the new livery) has joined the fleet at Elgin to fill in while 54826 is LTR following a fatal RTC last month. Unsure if 53715 is here permanently or if it will return south once 54826 is back.
It's a permanent transfer to North Scotland, but whether it ends up at Highlands or Bluebird is open to interpretation...

It's at Bluebird, as per above comments with Elgin. It entered service on the 10 today, it got from Elgin Bus Station to just outside the depot before failing, however they got it going again and it eventually made it down to Aberdeen and back.

Yes, I was referring to what happens when 54826 is back on the road...

53715 has been spotted in the wild, crossing the bridge over the Spey at Baxter's yesterday. I think the gold swoosh looks quite good here - I definitely like this livery :)

54247 has overturned on the 61 near Newburgh, this is the 3rd Interdeck to have overturned on the Buchan Xpress in the last two years.

No, but there are photos online showing the last two incidents (both in 2018 during the "beast from the east") along with this one.

A single-decker bus has landed on its side as weather conditions begin to deteriorate in the north-east.

The incident occurred on the B9000 Ellon to Newburgh road at the A90 slip road for Newburgh at 6.42pm.

A police spokesman said there were no injuries to the driver or passengers on board.

“Due to high winds, it is not safe to recover the coach until tomorrow where it will be reassessed. Please avoid the area until further notice,” the statement continues.

The road will remain closed overnight and local diversions are being arranged by Mintlaw road policing unit and Aberdeenshire Council.

16954 was finally moved from Aberdeen this week after about 2 years there. Its currently at east Scotland's arbroath depot for storage along with 22869/70. No idea why there are at arbroath.

Presumably 16954 is not now need as Bluebird lost the 9U contract to First Aberdeen. I can only think that was what Aberdeen repainted it for and it then spent a lot of time inside Aberdeen depot.
