Is this route covered by the same coach on the outward and return trip? I’m doing the trip on Sunday but don’t want to get stranded on Skye!

Same bus all the way through to Glasgow and Uig. Bus usually has a rest stop at Fort William before carrying on.

Day trip?

From Glasgow i think its cheaper to get an explorer ticket at £49 as fares are quite dear to Skye.

I did just that, a return to Uig was £47 so I just paid the extra couple of quid just in case I decide to go somewhere else as well another day

Yeah , day return from Glasgow to Skye is like £63 quid . Might be a cheaper apex return.

Has around 45 mins in Fort William.

During which you get tipped out (though reboarding is in priority order of who was already on before others and you can leave bags on). This is no great issue, though; the bus station has a big Morrisons and 45 minutes is perfect timing for a quick cafe fry-up!

Presumably this is the driver's legal break.

The coach does Glasgow - Uig - Glasgow and is normally one of WCMs YN17 ONx Irizars based at Charles Street but it is not unusual for other Glasgow based coaches to make an appearance. I am sure at one time the Glasgow drivers didn't go beyond Fort William but I have no idea if that is still the case.

Sheil buses also operate on the route too.

West Coast Motors operate the 916 up to Uig and Back down to Glasgow. Same coach there and back I'm led to believe, gets back in Glasgow just after 10pm the same day

Can be either wcm or sheil buses on the route. Wcm driver south of fort William and sheil going north.

That service uses the same Glasgow based WCM coach throughout. A WCM driver takes it to Fort William with a Shiels driver from there to Uig and back (who will have to take a 45 min break in Uig even if he is late arriving) and another Glasgow based WCM driver taking the last leg back from Fort William, this driver has his 45min break at FW from the 18.15 arrival from Glasgow so if this is seriously delayed your service will leave late.

Just seen that some wild weather is scheduled to hit the Highlands on Sunday, will this route still run the full route both there and back or will it be cancelled leaving me stranded?

I've do think the practice of making passengers leave the vehicle raises interesting questions about those with mobility difficulties or other disabilities who can't readily leave the vehicle.

people unable to self evacuate should not be travelling, there are plenty of reasons why they may have to leave a vehicle, and possibilities for their connection at the other end to fail,

However this is very off topic and possibly suitable for it's own thread.

The problem is that there's no viable way not to, as the driver cannot have his legal break on the vehicle.

Unusually the 916 this morning was being operated by a Shiels vehicle, one of the two Jonckheere bodied Volvos.

I think intending passengers should be told about the need to leave the vehicle. There is no reference to this in the on-line timetable. What if it is cold and wet outside. Fort William bus stance does not afford much shelter.

It's right next to Morrisons (like, literally, the shelters are attached to the back wall of the supermarket building), grab a tea or coffee for a quid and a bit and sit in there.

Because of the presence of said supermarket, I'd argue that the bus station (I love the Scottish word "stance") has one of the best facilities of any in the UK - though I'm sure some others are similarly sited. Remember Scotland doesn't have Sunday trading hours so it's open conveniently early every day.
