Has around 45 mins in Fort William.Same bus all the way through to Glasgow and Uig. Bus usually has a rest stop at Fort William before carrying on.
Is this route covered by the same coach on the outward and return trip? I’m doing the trip on Sunday but don’t want to get stranded on Skye!
Day trip?
From Glasgow i think its cheaper to get an explorer ticket at £49 as fares are quite dear to Skye.
I did just that, a return to Uig was £47 so I just paid the extra couple of quid just in case I decide to go somewhere else as well another day

The coach does Glasgow - Uig - Glasgow and is normally one of WCMs YN17 ONx Irizars based at Charles Street but it is not unusual for other Glasgow based coaches to make an appearance. I am sure at one time the Glasgow drivers didn't go beyond Fort William but I have no idea if that is still the case.Is this route covered by the same coach on the outward and return trip? Never seen a Shiel Buses on the 916, only the 914/5.Sheil buses also operate on the route too.

I've do think the practice of making passengers leave the vehicle raises interesting questions about those with mobility difficulties or other disabilities who can't readily leave the vehicle.During which you get tipped out (though reboarding is in priority order of who was already on before others and you can leave bags on). This is no great issue, though; the bus station has a big Morrisons and 45 minutes is perfect timing for a quick cafe fry-up!
Presumably this is the driver's legal break.

With the help of a friend/relative (and same with someone else meeting them at the other end). How did they get on ?

Unusually the 916 this morning was being operated by a Shiels vehicle, one of the two Jonckheere bodied Volvos. That service uses the same Glasgow based WCM coach throughout. A WCM driver takes it to Fort William with a Shiels driver from there to Uig and back (who will have to take a 45 min break in Uig even if he is late arriving) and another Glasgow based WCM driver taking the last leg back from Fort William, this driver has his 45min break at FW from the 18.15 arrival from Glasgow so if this is seriously delayed your service will leave late.
I think intending passengers should be told about the need to leave the vehicle. There is no reference to this in the on-line timetable. What if it is cold and wet outside. Fort William bus stance does not afford much shelter.
