In light of the recent incidents at Margam and elsewhere I'm surprised that working red zone is still allowed (I believe Scotland zone is banned) and that the idea of manned track patrolling seems decidedly old fashioned these days if the same job can be done 'electronically'.
A good sign maybe but presumably more Mark IIIs (or even Mark IVs) will need to be acquired to increase the amount of coverage done.
If anything I would have thought they would be after more mark 2's.
shorter carriage length, "C1" spec is pretty much go anywhere, only limitation is 100mph.
125mph still needed, but maybe a dozen or so MK3's would be needed for 4 sets of bananas.the cl73+ MK2/dbso sets can then patrol the rural routes(perhaps even an option for redundant cl153/150's/769's for inspection or rail treatment as they get withdrawn)
DRS could probably donate a couple of their fleet and replace with mark 3/4, which would be quite a nice upgrade for charters.
