Non existent round here! I can guarantee that the main road near me is flooded because of the drains that have been blocked for over 2 years, and I don’t even need to go out to check. I’m at the point where I’m considering clearing them myself.

Certain people locally in St Albans do that in any case. Really is a joke.

You can't accurately predict what damage a storm will cause, so we have to trust those with the most detailed information and professionally trained to make the best plans they can. What you can accurately predict is the related discussion will descend into a petty argument, often by people who have very little information or experience. Can't people here just be polite and civil, rather than slagging off people with different views?

The train companies have had at least 72hrs warning, no excuse...
As have passengers to make alternative arrangements, like travelling home yesterday instead of today, as I did. Admittedly by car, but I didn't want to be travelling through mid Wales in a storm.

A tree on the line has also stopped all serves between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

Yep, just got tipped of the 1H45 at Piccadilly P13.

Shared a black cab with four others for a £33 fare.
Cheeky bugger went the long way via Stretford as well. I couldn't be bothered to have an argument

When it states a "station is closed" does that mean trains are, or are not, running through it (ie not stopping for pax)?

I've just been on national rail website, looking at Leeds to Carlisle (doesn't actually say S&C blocked, but must assume so). Despite the WCML being blocked north of Preston, main alternative suggested is going to Preston to catch an Avanti service. Wonder how that works?

A later alternative service shows as going via Middlesborough.

God knows - had a look and The Trainline are the same.

There's a big issue here with customer comms, quick look at Twitter shows customers ignoring TOC advice because of NRE and Trainline.

Unless you were in a desperate hurry, there's the tram! Although I've no idea what the service is like today to the airport.

EDIT City - Airport is a "good" service, other parts of the metro are disrupted though.

I sympathize with anyone stuck in stations etc organising RRB at 72 hours is going to be patchy best and very luck dependent.

Whilst not an insider I can speak from personal experience trying to organise an extra coach for my wedding summer Saturday (not peak time) with 6 weeks notice to go. Out of about 20 reputable companies I contacted across Sussex, only 3 had any availability due to coaches or driver's being fully booked out.

That was with 6 weeks notice. Whilst the train companies may have more influence and financial resource than myself, I would be genuinely not be surprised to find they would struggle to secure bus/coach travel at such short notice. The companies just don't keep large quantities of drivers and coaches spare for such an eventuality.

PS one of the 3 quotes was reasonable and all went well for wedding transport.

Tram would have been an option if I'd have had another 30 minutes leeway, (I'm just about to board my flight). Plus security at MAN is notoriously awful at the best of times.

For £7 in the circumstances, the taxi was a good choice.

Will I get a delay repay from Northern?

Because on a Sunday most of them want to get home and have nowhere else to go! I think this sanctimonious attitude is wrong and unhelpful.

The travel advice has been there since Thursday PM, it was reported locally and nationally by the press. Tickets on most TOCs could have been used on Saturday and can be used on Monday too. Some have clearly just ignored the advice given. It's not sanctimonious to point that out.

Very rarely things like this can happen due to Mother Nature. It's a fact of life.

And from my vantage point elsewhere in Lancashire the worst of the weather now appears to have passed (the met office forecast agrees). Obviously that doesn't help if there is actual flooding on the line between Preston and Lancaster, but it just looks like a fairly windy day now.

It's relatively quiet here in Wilmslow now. Road outside my house flooded because the drains are useless, but that'll be gone in another hour. Windy still but nothing beyond normal now.

Wakefield was quiet both on the roads and at Westgate station today - hereabouts passengers seem to have taken heed of the advice not to travel. Guard on the northern service to Doncaster is giving advice for onward travel as part of ticket inspection, sterling job.

EUS-LIV and EUS-PRE services all suspended until further notice as a result of a Pendolino pulling the wires down.

Looks like a problem on Cross City North. 2P06 0927 Redditch - Lichfield Trent Valley arrived Sutton Coldfield at 1026 (on time) and it is still there. No other Cross City trains north of New Street. XC trains (Birmingham-York) which were diverted this way now appearing as cancelled between Birmingham on Burton on Trent, and vice versa.
Looking at Traksy, 1M52 York- Biringham ran via Tamworth & Kingsbury to Coleshill Parkway, is now starting as 1S45 1230 Birmingham - Dundee (good luck with that :) ) There may be a queue for the buses as only the 170s were planned to terminate there (Leicester/Cambridge/Stanstead & Nottingham). Presumably a single Voyager as Coleshill Parkway has 6x20m platforms according to Quail maps.

Well said mate. Far too many insulting replies creeping into these Forums. And imo, far too much moaning and complaining about everything on the railway!

South of Winsford.
Open train times maps shows 1A22 and 9G52 just south of Winsford

EDIT: 1A22 11:47 Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston (Pendolino 390 138); 9G52 11:17 Preston to London Euston via Birmingham (EDIT: 390 001 per later post #310).
