Someone has posted this on the RM web forum:-

"Following a rumour that Saturday 15th February would be the "last day", I have had the following from a manager within Northern:

142's will be running until "at least" the 6th March in the North West, there will still be 2 diagrams that will include a 142 on them. There is already a nominated pool of 4 that will work these, with the other 10 NH based units moving to HT from the 15th Feb onward for storage".

I still question why Northern chose so many pacers to continue into 2020 when they are never going to be used. And why are they going to store them in Heaton? Only for them ending up back south for cold storage no doubt.

No doubt it was a few months before the end of 2019 when they had to apply for the PRM dispensations. At that point they wouldn’t know exactly how many of the CAF sets would be in service, so applying for a “worst case” number of dispensations was a prudent thing to do. Can you imagine if the CAF sets hadn’t been in traffic and they didn’t have the dispensations in place, just what the reaction would have been?

It still begs the question why are most busy Southport services only formed of two carriages? Hopefully things will get better once the 769s are in service.

All the evidence indicates that the PRM dispensations were sought, and agreed, in December.

Jam tomorrow..

Just been told by a colleague in the messroom this morning that 144011 is going to the KWVR. Not seen anything about it anywhere else so not 100% certain, but it has come from a good source.

Good news if true... shame it's not a 3-car but space is probably tight in that narrow valley!

If that’s true that Keighley are taking 144011 that’s excellent news as 144s have always been associated with West Yorkshire and have been passing through Keighley all their lives and also means not far for local enthusiasts to travel to.

Pity it isn't one of the 3 cars if they have room.

Your bio says you’re fifteen so I cannot see you working for Northern, so do you mind if I ask where you get your information from? :)
You talking about this?

I've added 144011 and 142038 to the list as unit to be preserved and the two class 142's being used as route learning units, these RLU's have been highlighted yellow as they've been converted to another use i.e as a route learner. Once information comes to light on where 038 is going I'll add it to the list. Updates have also been made to 143603, as this was suppose to be preserved at Swindon and Cricklade, could it still end up being preserved but as a heritage spares unit?

Going by Wikipedia the Pacers that are being converted into radio station studios, hospital outbuildings, education establishments, etc are to be the class 142's.

Red - withdrawn.
Orange - scrapped / sent to be scrapped
Yellow - converted to other use (does not include food tins or razor blades).
Green - modified for Passengers of Reduced Mobility.
Blue - in storage.
Purple - preserved.
Pink - can operate provided that they are coupled to a PRM compliant unit.
Black - class 142 units that are still in service, subject to change in the coming months.
