As the title says. I am a trainee driver and I have been tasked with getting an electronic copy of the WON, but I haven't been able to locate one. I wasn't told how to get one, I was just told to get one. Can anyone advise?

Thank you.

Your TOC will be issued a bespoke WON for the routes covered, so they will supply it to you.
We are issued a full route WON in NR that will have a lot more in it that comes from the publications team based in NR. There are also different versions other than the final WON such as the draft and supplement etc.
Go back to your manager and ask for one and ensure you get a copy each week.

Read the back of the paper copy for full instructions.

As great as electronics are, there's nowt better than browsing a proper, physical, WON. You're much more likely to read and digest it, rather than ignore an email, and, if you need one, there's an ESW ticket there too.

You really need to be consulting your management rather than a forum for things such as this. Your company will have bespoke arrangements as others have said.

If you're not willing to approach your managers for such a simple question......

Unless of course..

As the title says. I am a trainee driver and I have been tasked with getting an electronic copy of the WON

His Manager asked him to source an electronic copy.

Should have been a 5 minute task, considering the instructions are on the back of the paper copy, but this is kinda the new way of 'teaching' Trainees. Set them a task which they should be able to carry out themselves and empower them to make similar decisions in the future. 'Non Technical Skills' are something TOCs are very much trying to push now days.

It also might just show that the Trainee has actually read a copy of the WON as per their booking on requirements.

My TOC has the electronic copy delivered to our iPads each week. All our Trainees should be aware of that and if any one of them asked for a copy of the WON it would potentially highlight that they haven't been accessing their iPads correctly.

If you need the WON do you:

A) Ask your wife
B) Ask your manager
C) Text 61016
D) Make a thread on rail forums

Which TOC you work for?

Despite a few people saying read the back of the WON ,most drivers won't be eligible to receive e-copy direct from NR.

Just me saying that. Why won't they be eligible ?

NR seem to to prefer to distribute this info to the TOC centrally and then for them to decide how to distribute it. The same issue has occurred with access to the electronic sectional appendix. As these are private publications, I guess NR have to have know the eligibility of people asking for access and that is best done via TOC/FOC.

The only thing that NR asked for when I got my electronic copy was that I had a company email. They even asked me which version I wanted. (full or bespoke). Same with my route maps from NR. All its taken is an email from a company email and they have been happy to send them to me. I would be surprised if the Publications team refused a request they have specifically asked people to subscribe to.

No harm in trying.

The PON and the Sectional Appendix are available publicly.

Ah, that may have been the issue as the email address SWR drivers were issued with last year doesn't actually work as an email address, just as a login username - go figure. I guess the company suffix on the email is NR's way of validating it a person with legitimate interest.

My RSSB, OpsWeb and SPARK all do the same. (all well worth joining) You can, once joined, flip your email to a personal one. I think its possible, to get a Manager with a company email address to verify you but I believe that only works with the various distribution lists and not the automated login/sign ups.
