It was Carlisle Guards and Drivers to and from Glasgow.

Only recall going with Leeds guards on the 158's.

I do remember the work was originally going to go to Manchester Piccadilly NE guards at first as they had capacity to take the work but it was deemed wasteful going pass to/from Carlisle.

If it was I was I wasted time road learning and then helping pass out Link 1 guards at Leeds between Carlisle and Glasgow via Lockerbie :).

I can't remember Carlisle being involved but must have been based on what you recall, I do remember the guards LLC at Carlisle didn't like what was happening(I'm sure the argument given was Carlisle would need to recruit to cover the work), can't remember if Carlisle had Glasgow via Lockerbie on there route cards at the time although you'd think it would have been on as a diversion for the G&S).

You are misremembering. I was the Conductor Manager at Carlisle at the time and personally trained, passed out and assessed every Guard on the route.
There was a self contained diagram that was simply Carlisle to Glasgow and return, booked a 158 unit.
Carlisle crews were the only Northern Spirit crews that went north of the border (Glasgow both ways).
The train was formed off the 09:49 from Leeds, arriving in Glasgow at 13:50. It left Glasgow at 14:10 and formed the 15:51 from Carlisle, arriving in Leeds approx 18:40.
That would have been a 9hr 30min diagram with no break for a Leeds Guard which wouldn’t be allowed.

I also still have what is probably the only unopened bottle of Northern Spirit whisky left in the world.
These were given away to the various dignitaries on the inaugural run, and most were drunk there and then.

I Re-edited my original post as it made me look a bit 'smarmy'

In that case you must be my old friend with a Midlands accent!
Hope your doing well.

Clearly must be getting my wires crossed but it's bizarre as I remember this well as it created work that was a pain for us in helping pass them out, equally years later when Glasgow came part of TPE routes it was an easier route as I'd still got all my old RL notes!

The timings you give are what I remember which wouldn't tie in with PNB for Leeds but I can't think of any other reason why we'd pass out a link of Leeds conds on Glasgow unless you can remember??
The reason I'm certain we passed Leeds men out are some of the 'characters' particularly some of the ex Bradford guards playing up on pass out.

Where's Mr Fisher when you need him:)

I'm now beggining to doubt you.
No way you have kept an unopened bottle for so long :).

Have to hand it to RRNE and Northern Spirit for little stuff like that.
Still got a RRNE watch from when Picc depot opened and a Northern Spirit inscribed paperweight from when Northern Spirit launched and was on the digniteries launch train on the 158 from Leeds to Liverpool(after we'd detached the 142 at Leeds-thankfully).

TPE no longer have any involvement on the Yorkshire Coast line (Hull to Scarborough). Now all operated and crewed from Hull. There has been a significant uplift in Northern crews at Hull about a third more drivers and conductors.
