Hi just looking for some advice as I know there can sometimes be exceptions on this.

Currently looking at either

A) Booking on the cal sleeper from Glasgow to Fort William approx 0547 using an open ticket (will call to reserve a seat)

B) Booking on the first scotrail train from Glasgow to Glennfinan approx 0822 using an open ticket

For either of these is it valid with an off-peak ticket when using a 26-30 railcard.

Additional follow up detail would be can I use an open return 26-30 discounted ticket on Cal Sleeper as it's not possible to normally use the 26-30 for the advance fares.

According to the 26-30 railcard website it is possible to use a 16-25 railcard on First and Standard Class advance fares. It is not obvious whether or not the minimum fare (£12, so less than any of the standard returns) before 1000 applies to advance fares though.

As far as I know any 26-30 discounted ticket can't be used on Caledonain Sleeper services. Probably unlikely to be enforced but I wouldn't try it. Regarding reservations many people have found them impossible to obtain, but passengers are carried without reservations for stations between Edinburgh and Fort William, done this a couple of times myself.

I was told I'd be ok to board when I used the FTW portion as a day train, but the twitter team said they couldn't reserve me a seat.

The train was pretty much empty (even for sleeper passengers) so it was no issue, but the TM said I should have been able to make a reservation. But the fact I didn't have one was no issue.

If you do indeed mean FTW to Glasgow on the Sleeper, that is defiantly valid on even an Super Off Peak Return (which is cheaper than the non-concession singles). Going north, it appeats to be valid on the Off Peak Day Return but not the Off Peak Return.
