Northern Class 142 sightings

142035 on 1637 and PM rose Hill peaks
142004 was on this mornings. 0854 peak ex Marple
However this morning the 0648 southport to Blackburn was cancelled. However according to rtt unit was stepped up. So maybe this was on alderley today instead. Does anyone have sightings off this
Also 142061 with 156 on 0940 rose hill. And rose hills all day. Sadly the 1749 tonight didn't run.
All day the rose hills due to hyde issues 142061 and 156 have gone Express romiley to ashburys

Hi. First post on this forum from a long-time lurker. My ten-year old son has a day off school tomorrow (Friday), so we are planning to spend the day on a Derbyshire Wayfarer, starting and ending in Nottingham. Any recommendations about what trains would give us the best chance to get the full pacer experience?

So far today: 142 004 / 036 / 043 and two others on NH. 142 061 with 150 276 on 11:13 Kirkby, 142 047 with 158 901 on 14:42 Rochdale to Blackburn, and 142 078 wth 150 211 on 14:23 Wigan to Blackburn via Accrington. Four of the other Blackburn / Clitheroe workings were pacerless. Settling down in cosy 078 for long journey to Blackburn via Copy Pit.

142004 is back out again from a lunchtime break at newton Heath and is with 150125 on the pm rose hills. So tomorrow
That should be on those shuttles all day

142 055 and 150 115 worked 17:49 Pic to Sheffield. 142 045 and 150 128 on 18:25 Clitheroe to Rochdale.

Your only chance with a wayfarer would be Sheffield to New Mills Central if you get lucky.

Like the Op said above, this http://www.railrover.org/pages/greater-manchester-wayfarer.html would give you the best chance.

You would need to drive to Grindleford or Glossop to access the network. Glossop is best for speed.

This http://www.railrover.org/pages/south-pennines-day-ranger.html would also give you access to most pacer routes to.

I was going to venture out on Saturday to get some last 142 rides, but it is looking like there is going to be a lot of disruption again as another storm is on it's way.

Was lovely and warm. Why does it all have to end this way. Couldn't northern have done a better prm tsi deal like Wales and kept more to around end July at least.

Because Northern have had replacements (195s) and TFW haven't (waiting 769s)

142090 was my last haulage on a pacer untill last weekend, last time i ever rode a solo 142. 16:08 HOP-MPL

From what I've read above, 142043 has now been laid up at NH. I rode on that twice last week on the 09:35 Kirkby to Manchester Victoria.
I have two recollections of riding on this unit in 1990. One was from Preston to Wigan NW and the other was from Blackburn to Bolton around June of that year. It had Voith gearboxes by this time. I can recollect travelling on most of the NH 142s over the past 33 years. I cannot say the same of the 150s or 156s, as I never looked at their unit numbers.

Some gen for today only for the Blackburn area. 142047 & 158901 1142 & 1442 & 1754 off Rochdale. 142058 & 150117 1218 & 1618 off Rochdale. 142055 & 150112 1242 1542 off Rochdale. 142045 & 150105 1713 Vic to Kirby.

Didnt see the above post, started typing out ages ago!


The 142047+158901 pair currently sat failed at Salford Cresent with a fault on the 158. Running fast to Vic with the 158 locked out cant see it going past there.

We're coming up from London for what I hope will be a final day of Pacer bashing around the North West tomorrow. Like others, I'd appreciate any info on workings from first thing and as the day goes on, and will likewise post anything we find. Fingers crossed Storm Dennis doesn't stop the job!
