How have these ended up the wrong way round? There isn't any scope for accidental reversal on the route that I can think of.

I've noticed that units that are the wrong way round have stayed the wrong way round. Might have gotten switched during training/fault-free running?

The only thing I can think of is the trips from Crewe to Manchester as well as Crewe up to Carlisle before going back down to Manchester that way.

I thought that was the plan First Class at South end , 350s and 185s went either way.

Never aware the Desiros had a 'proper' orientation. Back when 1M90 as 8-car was the norm, DCBAEFGH seemed to be the coach formation half the time.

Yes, first class at South end is the intended orientation. I know at least 007 and 002 aren't this way around.

How about these Manchester Airport (MIA) to Manchester Victoria (MCV) on to Preston (PRE) via Bolton (BON) then back to MIA via Wigan North Western (WGN).
Or Manchester airport (MIA) to Glasgow Central (GLC) and then onto Edinburgh (EDB) and back up to Manchester Airport (MIA).

Didn't think TPE's Northwest route ever went via MCV (except maybe as a diversion if required), or that it went via WGN on a regular basis after May 2019 TT change.

Can confirm. Currently onboard 1M95 - 397006 today. This unit is in the orientation of first class being at the South bound end of the train.

That's the preferred way around.
397002 & 397007 are the ones opposite way around at the moment.

Both routes that I mentioned are possibly, not normal running routes but would work. The Preston move would be something like this weekend when TPE stopped trains running north, maybe the same could have happened between Carlisle and Glasgow or Edinburgh?
I don't know if the traction is passed for the lines or the drivers.
