Edit: Apparently catering stuff was loaded in Coach G - sorry but there's Coach B for that which had a static trolley when I was last on an HST just over a month ago from Exeter St. David's to Bristol Temple Meads.
Coach B is the one that is missing. Catering supplies and equipment being stored in the TGS.

Stupid me, that make sense now :)!

Let's hope that the 15:03 from Birmingham New Street to Edinburgh is a 6-coach HST (no Coach B) which means the catering trolley will be in the Guards Van in Coach G - my seat reservation is nearest the train office door. Also with 6 coaches, a little faster acceleration too.

If it's on the 0611 Leeds to Plymouth it will return on the 1227 Plymouth to Glasgow which is the 1603 from Birmingham.

Sorry, I meant on the 16/04/20 :). If I'm very honest, in terms of seats, a loss of Coach B on a 7-coach XC HST isn't something to be too worried about as the only loss of Standard Class seats are the 8 unreserved ones. Plus I imagine there won't be a massive amount of First Class passengers anyway.

Not it wasn't!
I was on the train yesterday and they kept making announcements about the service being short-formed due to a carriage being missing (it was also advertised as 6 coaches on the PIS screens). Is there something that makes you think otherwise (is there more than 6-coach set about at the moment)?

Looks like both are running as 6 car ATM. One with no coach B the other with no coach E. The latter was yours yesterday as it is on 1V50 today.

Two things make me know it wasn't, 1) I've checked the allocations and 2) The sets cannot be in Leeds and Edinburgh at the same time!

Thank you, that matched my educated guessing on RTT :)

Is there 'normal' way round for the XC sets to be marshalled (ie. first class either at the north end or south end) or are they in 'reverse formation' as often as not?

The correct formation is first class at the 'South' end

Just out of curiosity, why this is the correct formation when XC don't offer forward / backward seats?

I'm booked into the Quiet Coach at a window table seat that would normally be forwards on the opposite side (seaview side if backwards) - I can just simply concentrate on the train getting me to Edinburgh on the 16/04/20.

Many XC trains can reverse en route, hence why no forward or backwards facing options.
