Anyone got a long memory? As a lad I remember long trains clanking along the line past Fauldhouse, often at night but also during the day. I'm talking early 70's. I seem to remember steel wagons and tankers. Anyone got knowledge of brand names, style of wagons, what they were carrying, source and destination? Also what the driving locos were?

Yes, most of them went west to Ravenscraig I believe, joining at Benhar but I remember a lot of traffic heading east
Only ever remember double headed 20's on them , never saw anything else

Researching I found a photo of 2 20's on the Polkemmet branch. Also saw one of the steam locos pulling the coal wagons. I didn't remember what a disgusting state the wagons were in by that time.

I used to go up to benhar and watch them crossing the ungated crosssing. That was in the mid 70’s and track wasn’t in best of condition. Had an uncle who would sometimes tar me to Polkemey and actually ride the “pugs” happy days
