I'm sure we all know about split ticketing, but I was wondering if you could split ticket with a travelcard.

For example, I'm (child) planning to head to Uxbridge via London Victoria on Thursday, leaving from Wivelsfield (or Burgess Hill) at around 8:00 (8:02 from WVF). A travelcard would cost around £27 and an anytime return would cost around £22. With split ticketing, I could decrease the anytime return price down to £16.10 by splitting at Gatwick Airport and East Croydon.

Would making the ECR -> VIC split a travelcard fare be allowed? This would only increase the price by around £3.

I may be wrong, but I think there was more to the question than this answer suggests.

If you're asking would East Croydon to Victoria be covered by the travelcard then yes, it is. Equally, it's fine to use a travelcard as part of a split.

Wivlesfield to Gatwick £5.05
Gatwick to East Croydon £4.90
Zones 1-6 Travelcard £9.50

Remember that the train must call at the station where you change from one ticket to the next.

Thanks. I just wanted to double check there weren't any strange rules specifically for travelcards.

Thanks again! That wasn't what I had meant, but thank you for bringing it up. It amazes me how much split ticketing can actually end up saving, even on relatively short journeys like this.
