195017 is on a Wigan - Leeds diagram today, currently the 0856 from Wallgate, for anyone who's interested.

Quite surprised at that as it only became Huddersfield trainer recently (replacing 006). 195005 which was also trainer there is now in service. One replacement is 195018 which arrived at Huddersfield this week, anyone know which other one is there now please?

Bradford local paper has a bit about Northerns new trains quote
"Arriva Rail North (Northern) has now introduced three quarters of its brand new trains into customer service.
Nine additional new trains were launched on the network this week, meaning that 75 of the 101 trains ordered are now carrying Northern customers.
The introduction of the new trains – a £500m investment in rail in the north of England – began last summer and, since the launch of the first one, more than five million passenger journeys have been made on the Class 195 and Class 331 trains."

Are any of the Wigan to Leeds via Brighouse services still booked for 150s or 156s now that more 195s have entered service?
None seem to be booked, there are a few which are 153+158 but no 150s or 156s from what I can see.

Apparently the formations that include a 153 are those that are booked to start from Wigan NW, as they are barred from Wallgate.

Which amounts to just one diagram - it does 0954, 1454, & 1956 Wigan NW - Leeds. The only other Wigan NW - Leeds journeys (two/day each way) are the ones which are scheduled to start or finish at Springs Branch, and the rest of the day they run into & out of Wallgate.

153s are indeed prohibited from Wigan Station Jn (exclusive) towards Wallgate.

They don't fit. 153s and 155s have always been prohibited from Wallgate. Certain coaching stock is restricted too.

Once there are enough 195s in service, I hope all Wigan-Leeds departures can be standardised on Wallgate. The current split between NW and Wallgate is inconvenient for connections and not easily remembered.

I can see how it's an irritation, due to the lack of a memorable pattern, but both Wallgate and NW have their disadvantages, and Manchester services have been split between them since at least 2015 when I started regularly commuting again.

Just witnessed a 3 car variant depart Barnsley on the Hallam Line, instead of the usual 2 car.

This should provide a much needed capacity boost, and I hope this occurs more often.

Agreed, but it might make some sense if, for example, NW just had the departures for Piccadilly via Golborne and Chat Moss, leaving Wallgate to handle all trains to/from the Hindley direction, except maybe for a few peak hour extras that could use NW. How many of the Hindley route trains will continue to serve Oxford Road and Piccadilly is another question, amply discussed elsewhere. If NW were the station for through trains to Piccadilly, and Wallgate for Victoria it would at least be easy to remember. It wouldn't please everyone, but what can?

Just been on that 3-car, it was the 12:29 from Lincoln. Really nice journey, all the screens worked as well directing people to the front when the platform was too short too. First time that’s worked when I’ve been on.

Seen quite a few 3-cars going through Lincoln over the last few weeks, hope it stays that way.

When set up correctly the info screens are very good.

It's off topic so I'll leave it with this post, but the single thing that would make the biggest difference is if each station had a departure board that also showed services from the other.

Or show departures to Manchester from both stations on the same board - just as departures to Cambridge from both Kings Cross and St Pancras are shown on the Kings Cross departure boards.

I hope they're standardised on North Western, where onward connections are much better and where a bay platform can be used, whereas at Wallgate they have to make a shunt move. But I'm told that Northern doesn't want to pay Avanti despatchers and NW doesn't have ticket gates so I guess it's all about money.

Am I right in thinking that Northerns traincrew depot for Wigan is at Wallgate and not North Western?

That's right, it's at Wallgate. Pretty sure there are about 90 drivers there, in general it's a cracking depot and there's a waiting list for transferees to get in.

Every day last week and this week the PIS on 1D79 has been stuck at “We will shortly be arriving at Low Moor” for most of the journey towards Chester after Manchester Victoria. Not sure if it’s been the same unit every day but it’s a weird bug.

Leeds to Hebden Bridge on one of these earlier. Announced we were shortly to be arriving at Bradford Interchange about three minutes after we’d left, and approaching Halifax we (wrongly) got the “platforms aren’t long enough” announcement.
