Morning,

Northern were recently advertising for Trainee Driver roles at York. I see a number of people have applied - good luck!

Can any current Northern Drivers based at York give an idea of the shift patterns and any other information of note?

Please feel free to send a PM if easier/preferred.

Many thanks in advance.

A medium sized depot with friendly and supportive colleagues. You would learn and sign Manchester Victoria (via Dewsbury and Bradford), Leeds (direct and via Harrogate), Leeds to Selby, Hull (via ECML and Church Fenton) and Newcastle. You would also learn and drive Scarborough which Northern will be operating from May. Currently, route learning is being done by 142s!
A lovely mixture of routes - Harrogate and Manchester Victoria are my favourite but there is something nice being an occasional main line driver and going up and down the ECML to Newcastle!
Shifts keep changing and will change again radically from May with the Scarborough service introduction.
Good Luck to anyone applying for York.

Hey sharetrades I applied but for Darlington think they had a few different places all up at the same time. It’s now just the long wait see if get through paper sift. First time applying for my self and never worked on railway either so going to be a long shot but who knows :)

E-mails are starting to go out, I just received a "not progressing any further" one 10 minutes ago, good luck to all with your applications.

Damn just keep plugging away at it, you can't win a raffle without a ticket. I suppose I shall prepare myself for my not progressing any further email.

I will be, I've had a good old think about it, and realised my application form and cv were nowhere near up to standard as I rushed to get the application in on time, and had not done the research I have done over the last three weeks. Example, the first group bourdon I did, I missed 26 groups of four over 7-8 lines each, im now averaging 10-11 lines with 0-3 missed, just shows that practice works, that and all the help and like minded people posting on here with excellent advice, fingers crossed for you all.

What seems odd to me is that Scarborough is a new route on York drivers. You’d think considering they do Scarborough to Bridlington work that in the event of a unit failure or just stock needing moving to/from York or Neville Hill then via Malton would be the best route.

Northern's York drivers don't do Scarborough to Bridlington....

I meant ‘Northern’ do Scarb-Brid work therefore you’d think they did some work via Malton.
