There is a Quaking Houses in North Durham area.

Do any routes terminate there or do they just go in and out on their way to Lanchester, as the M8 used to?

That place belongs of course belongs in a category with Mottingham and possibly others - places who could be confused with much larger cities if you don't read the first letter carefully!

Believe it now is a Go North East service 30 going through to Lanchester. There may be an odd one terminating at Quaking Houses.

are just a few that appeared on Bristols destinations in 2019 for the shuttle buses taking concert goers to the various gigs.

Ah, talking of music, you've reminded me of my favourite one... (and it was a proper bus destination rather than just a village with a quirky name which services pass through)

Radio One's "big weekend" is back in Dundee this year - it was last there in 2006 - for those who don't know, the event goes round places in the UK that wouldn't have their own major festivals (Sunderland, Preston, Swindon etc - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_Radio_1's_Big_Weekend) - a bit like the way that the UK Capital Of Culture is places like Hull rather than more obvious places like York.

You know the way that a lot of towns/cities have that one sentence that encapsulates the local dialect? Often as a test for incomers (often Students), trying to show whether they can understand natives. In Sheffield we have "tin tin tins" (it isn't in tins"). In Aberdeen it's the bloke who walks into a shoe shop and asks "fit fit fits fit fit" ("which shoe fits which foot"), that kind of thing. But in Dundee it's something along the line of the bloke entering the Bakers and saying "eh'm gonna hae twa pehs, a plehn bridie an’ an inyin in an’ a”" (I'm going to have two pies, a plain bridie and an onion one as well"). So, "eh'm" is Dundonain for "I am".

Given Scotland's biggest music festival was "T In The Park" (a play on the quaint idea of "tea in the park" but with the logo of the less quaint Tennent's lager), the destination screens for the Radio One event showed "M In The Park" on Stagecoach Strathtay vehicles << as in "I Am In The Park", but in the style of "T In The Park". Something that would only make sense if you knew Dundonian (but hopefully raised a smile).

August Bank holiday weekend where you get numerous music festivals up & down the UK, Arriva & Warrington's own display Creamfields on those shuttle services, then you have National Express West Midlands shuttles displaying V Festival

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned that Edinburgh Corporation and Lothian used 'CIRCLE' as a destination as well 'Part Route' and 'Route Diverted' on their via screens.

There is a Beatles video for the song " Penny Lane" that has a bus screened " Penny Lane", the song is now way more famous than the place. Is there still a service screened as such?

Go North East 638 / NK12 HCE by kieron mathews, on Flickr

This has since been discontinued in favour of service 30 which passes through without terminating there, the M6 only goes as far as Stanley now

Funny thing is, only one bus route ever went down Penny Lane that was the Merseyside PTE rapidride 480 in the 1970s, Penny Lane was part of the the non stop section of the route. The terminus is opposite Penny Lane next to Smithdown Road.

A couple of routes in St Helens go to Parr, there's also Bold only one route goes through there now & Clock Face, & there's Crank near Rainford

This one which could be seen on Pride of the Dales buses in 2003 was a bit odd.

It was actually a promotion for a local brewery, but it confused me somewhat when I first saw it in Ilkley, as seen in this rather poor photo.POD_VIA179b_03Dec03.jpg

The ‘M in the Park’ play on words actually came about from a joke from one of Strathtay’s Dundee based drivers whilst working at T in the Park (at Balado, Kinross) the previous year. It went along the lines of... “Next year the festival is going to be sponsored by Miller, and it’s moving to Dundee. It’s going to be called M in the Park” which when said in the aforementioned Dundonian accent, raised a titter amongst the waiting drivers!

There's one right next door called Talke Pits which appears on blinds too.:E

Service 3, with alternate journeys to ‘Butt Lane’.

Scarlet Bard of County Durham had ‘Service’ on their roller blinds so obscure routes simply read ‘Service x’.

Stagecoach Hartlepool have an evening short journey on service 1 from Middlesbrough to Hartlepool which reads ‘Town Centre 1’ - neglecting to mention which town on a cross-boundary service.

Stagecoach vehicles operating the long lost ‘Badger Bus’ summer services on Teesside were able to display ‘Countryside Bus’ as a destination.

When Shearings operated bus services one of their destinations was "Fairyland". Not a sylvan glen but a housing estate in Neath. A photo online of a Shearings coach displaying this is titled 'Spoof Destination'.

Rerminds me of one of the Carry On films where Temperance women carried a banner that said 'Drink is Thine Enemy' followed by another that said 'Love Thine Enemy'.:D

They haven’t done that since early last year - when the revised destination style was rolled out and they now show ‘Hartlepool Town Centre’ on all Hartlepool services.

While on the subject of Stagecoach services, all Teesside services which have journeys that terminate in Stockton have 3 or 4 separate destinations - all read ‘Stockton’ then either have ‘Castlegate Centre’ (the large Shopping Centre at the Southern End of the High Street), ‘Wellington Square’ (the open air Shopping Centre at the Northern end of the High Street), ‘Royal Oak’ (a pub at the northern end of the High Street - only seen this displayed by one or two services) and the generic ‘Town Centre’.

In Sheffield of recent times I've seen buses displaying 'engineer on road test'.

In olden times of Sheffield on the syt blinds there was a place called Fence.

I'll try and remember to check my timetables at some point as for the works services I'm almost sure Izal Factory was on the syt blinds.

Often used to see the syt number blinds showing XXX or 0X0.

I believe TM Travel also have 'Ford' on their dot matrix indicators for short 252 runs.

I never knew that. Wonder how many times Ford gets displayed as didn't know of any short runs to Ford even in Aston Express days of the route.

Edit:
Izal Factory WAS on Sheffield syt blinds in the early 80s, checked.

Other Syt odd destinations I can think of were:

Private charter
Football
Garage

I really miss the days of seeing drivers scroll through the destination blinds on buses.

Would love to see a list of destinations on the EMR class 153s current blinds...
