Was messing around on HAFAS last night looking at ferry times to Dublin and found this unusual move planned for Saturday night from Cardiff to Holyhead, checked on RTT and its timed as loco hauled with Restaurant car..
Cloud this be Gerald out on a ruggex for the Wales v France match at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday?
Hes been canned all week due to the floods...

Nothing on TFW-rail's website, Facebook or Twitter pages to advertisethis. Very odd given the line between Hereford and Abergaveny is closed. I'd also read somewhere else that there was a reluctance to run the mark 3s on additional trips due the droplight windows and the need to have stewards present to monitor (something that won't be an issue with the mark 4s of course)

The rugby specials for some reason are very poorly advertised sometimes only actually ending up in the schedule a day or so before the game. I'm not sure if they wait to see how many tickets are sold in advance and make a decision on weather to run.

They are good fun for a day at the rugby though, crates of beer and sing songs at 09.00am and even better on the way home. Sadly there are never any advances to be had on rugby days and North to South Wales on them is a very expensive do. Much cheaper to hire minibus or coach for way less than the £100 each that the train is.

I think this is the outward journey....

They re usually put into systems on the Friday when it is confirmed if they can be crewed or not so this is early. They are never advertised openly

exactly..... but most people have planned their journeys by then so the usual trains are rammed and a nice 4 coach loco hauled trundles along virtually empty.

Madness.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

@Y Ddraig Coch

Diolch! Sounds fun!! (as long as they dont send out those d!ckhead Security men from the Rhymney 37's to spoil it..!)
Do they normally operate the Restaurant service and First when they run these as RTT seems to suggest or is the MK3 RFM normally locked out? Wonder if Upgrades are available as during the week??

I have never seen any security on the north wales mark III's and never had any issues standing by a drop light from the guards I also have not seen the restaurant car either as it is 1st class seats only in that coach and for obvious reasons there isn't many takers for them on a rugby special. I would expect it will be just 3 or 4 standard class III coaches.

Despite what I told you earlier Craigybagel plans have changed and it will be a unit now. Of course the line may not reopen and the service may not run at all.

Cheers Turbo, I'm not too surprised to be honest. That said, I'm not really going to expect or predict anything till I see what turns up on the day!
