Thanks for the heads-up, just read your first entry and enjoyed it. I've subscribed for updates :)

Wow at the difference between the current and old Liverpool Street stations though, jeepers I much prefer what we have now. It's by far not my favourite station, but compared to the one from the 1980s I'd not want that back!

Fascinating, and I shall be mentally comparing notes from my own memories of slightly earlier (and nowhere as far afield!).
One comment - I recall 4-a-side compartments in France and NL (and more recently in CZ/SK/PL), but my memories of Germany are 3-a-side (with low seat back so you could pull them down at night and improvise "sleeping" space.

Great photos of Liverpool St, including our old office before it got demolished!

Liverpool St in the late 70s early 80s was a wonder - a wonder how it all worked. As an operator there were many restrictions on train length and loco workings, which all made it much more of a challenge than it is today, and todays is challenging enough.

Thanks for posting this, wish I had the patience and IT skills to do similar.

Thanks I really enjoyed the Liverpool St. photos; I travelled through it a few times before it was rebuilt in NSE days, and I still remember that long, snaking, elevated footbridge that connected the two halves. The InterCity boat train to Harwich PQ and the night crossing to the Hoek was my preferred route to the Continent before the arrival of Eurostar. As an aside, I see from the photos there is a Fullers' pub, "The Parcel Office", under construction. Where about is it, and is there an opening date, please?

I'm very much looking forward to reading more of these posts as time goes on, especially for the 'behind the Iron Curtain' experiences.

Interesting that you were able to wander freely around the Olympiastadion in Munich, as 30+ years later in 2017, I was able to do exactly the same!

Thank you all for your encouraging comments. I've been rather tied up this weekend, so I'm only just catching up with them now. The link I provided to the old pictures of Liverpool Street (and its reconstruction) seem to have generated the most interest. Perhaps I should have made clear that these are not my pictures, but a Flickr album I came across while searching the Internet.

There will be another post next Friday morning.

The bridge in your banner is Bratislava, isn’t it? Pic taken from the castle?

I may have been interviewed by the same vetting officer, though they all came from the same school, I think.

Correct. I have two photos which I took from the same spot 32 years apart - the banner is the more recent. Other than a few more buildings on the far bank of the Danube, the main differnce is how tall the trees have grown in the castle grounds in the foreground of each picture.

Another Friday morning blog post has been published: europeexplored.travel.blog

So I saw, I got an email to alert me to the new entry. Really enjoyable read, you got quite a reasonable variety of stuff done there. Particularly enjoyed the part on Budapest, one of my favourite places I went to in 2019.

Salzberg doesn't sound very interesting, so I'm glad I haven't wasted my time going there.

I did find it slightly interesting that the entire read was doable in the email, I thought the subscription alert thing would only send me a link.

Looking forward to the part on Romania, a country I've yet to do.
