SWR have reduced to an hourly service from Ewell West since the new year for some reason, with plenty of cancellations , also now takes 55 mins to Waterloo with a 10 minute wait at Worcester Park...

Anyone know if this will continue on the 6th?

I’ve given up asking SWR as they can’t give me a straight answer, but from reading on here looks like issue will remain for a few more weeks.

Ive been using Ewell East for the last 3 weeks, may not go back to SWR as the journey is on nicer trains with tables I can actually work at. Plus the wifi is usable.

Today, they have introduced a 'semi-fast' service from Guildford to Waterloo, so called 'non-stop' from Effingham Junction to Raynes Park. The problem is that this service is only 3 minutes later than the stopping service via Cobham, so it will not be fast or non-stop at all, it will be crawl behind the Cobham service in front.

Line reopens tomorrow morning (subject to passing tests tonight), albeit with some evening peak alterations - a set of points are yet to be reinstated.

Are you still planning on then travelling back from Wimbledon to Ewell West then back up to Wimbledon to experience the single line working?
I was but I ran out of time. I would have had a brief window on Friday evening but I was out with others in London and forgot.

I had thought perhaps this weekend but it was buses.

There will be other times though, now I know it's used there at other times of the year when there is engineering works.

Good luck with that! You'll only get as far as Surbiton.
On Friday they were running trains as I described, non-stop from Effingham Junction to Raynes Park.

However the evening plans changed and I needed to be in London slightly earlier and thus couldn't use my planned service, as it wouldn't get me to where I needed to be in time.

So I got a fast service instead. One which was, to my advantage, slightly late, due to the other landslide, the one south of Guildford.

As an aside, I did at least get to travel south from Woking to Guildford using Woking"s platform 2 that evening. I think I've done that before, although not on a shuttle service between the two but it's unusual.

Back to the matter in hand. How long would it likely take to replace the missing points and related line work? Would a weekend possession be long enough?

I am guessing that the peak alterations involve the Waterloo - Epsom additionals not running as they would not have time to reverse via the sidings and still get back to Waterloo in time for their next service? ( For the benefit of those not familiar with Epsom, these services normally terminate in platform 2 and return empty direct to Waterloo via the affected crossover; reversing via the sidings would take probably an extra ten minutes ).

That's correct, they are diverted to Chessington South instead. The semi-fast Dorking trains will call additionally at Stoneleigh and Ewell West.

Today ( Sunday 12th ) 66 772 - I think - was pottering around this area with an engineering train which appeared to include a crane of the 782xx variety and track carrying wagons in the consist. Seen through trees after dark being propelled slowly towards Ewell West.

Would that indicate they have been working on putting the crossover back already?

There were late notice cancellations of the 2D services from Guildford on Sunday to enable the reinstatement of the points at Epsom.

The Royal Mail has this morning delivered all the "railway neighbour" letters advising residents that the work was to take place over the weekend...

Four pictures taken from on board 455 909 about 45 minutes ago showing the current state of the repairs.

First time I've been across it in daylight since it re-opened.

Apologies for the poor quality; they're mobile phone pictures as I was on a shopping trip so didn't have the proper camera with me.
