Do wish Northern would look after these new trains between services. An absolute disgrace how some of these units look at 6 o'clock in the evening.

it doesn’t help that the bins are the size of a shoebox and not clearly visible

Looks like a driving end of a Northern 195 unit received an interesting welsh dragon wrap today at the opening ceremony of CAF’s Newport Factory.

I thought the attitude to bins on the railway was to not have them if it's at all possible because of the chance terrorists can put bombs of other things that can do harm in them

For some reason it has long taken that view on stations, but never on rolling stock, almost all of which does have bins of varying effectiveness. I've had some funny looks over the years for walking up to a unit, opening the door and putting something in the bin then walking off, there being no option to do so on the station.

I've complained about the lack of bins or visibility of to Northern shortly after they were introduced. The bin was a major flaw (alongside lack of overhead grab rails) as they'll just get trashed within a few years.

There is one small bin located near each door although very well hidden behind seating and dividing panel. It's not as easy as putting more bins in as similar areas appear to occupued by heating gubbins and fire extinguisher holders.

The easiest solution would be to employ some staff to gove units a quick clean (i.e. bin bags) at major stations (Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street & Leeds) between services. Northern under Abellio used to have them but Arriva got rid of them shortly after taking over the franchise in 2016.

If you think the bins in the saloons are bad (and yes they were clearly designed by people so out of touch with reality it's absurd, like many things on the units) you should see the ones in the cabs.

At least the 195's have bins in the cabs though, unlike (for example) 150's where the cab itself actually is the dustbin!

I think the plastic wrap is about the only thing about them that is "Made in Wales".

Allowing the branding to cover the windows is a mistake perpetrated by the original RailJets in Austria - it totally destroys efforts to achieve decent window alignment.
ÖBB belatedly rebranded the trains to allow views out of the windows affected.

Leeds to Hebden Bridge on one of these earlier. Announced we were shortly to be arriving at Bradford Interchange about three minutes after we’d left, and approaching Halifax we (wrongly) got the “platforms aren’t long enough” announcement.
Several times I've used a 195 back to Rochdale from Victoria and the screens have shown "platform exits to the left" (when facing forwards) several times before being corrected to "right". Same at Halifax I think. A partially-sighted colleague asked if there should also be an announcement as this would be helpful but I guess not.

They'll be the training units, so no they are unlikely to be out in traffic until they get swapped.

After talking to someone in the know I believe only the following 195s have not entered passenger service yet.two car 195 022, 023, 3 car 195 130.
195 021 currently back with CAF after being derailed. Dont think it was ever used.
Awaiting delivery are 195 024, and add on order 195 131, 132, 133.
Training units seem to be rotated from in service units rather than the previous practice of using units not prepared for passengers (no steps fitted, seats carpets covered etc).
Not sure on the position with the 331s where a number of the 3 cars were stored.

Did 021 enter service before being derailed on Edge Hill? It's currently back in Wales.

195,111 on the 1F94 Manchester Oxford Rd to Liverpool Lime Street.

I'm at South Parkway and I suspect it will be the same unit I catch for the 11.26 LPY departure to Oxford Rd?

Even though this unit has been doing the rounds since last August, it looks like it's only been out of the works for a day or so from observing it from above the LPY footbridge. It was very shiny!

Are there any plans to use these units on services out of Huddersfield?

The PIS is not working on 111. Totally black screen. I guess it's not as new as it looks from the top!

Can anyone tell me why the service used platform 3 at Oxford Rd when platform 5 was empty?

Edit, it was platform 3.

These units are such a massive upgrade from the knackered old 15x units though. They are actually a nice place to be instead of an endurance test.

195s 017-020 and 025 aren't in service yet either and nor are 108 and 129 (in addition to the status of the others in the post above).

Class 331s; 012 and 022-031 not yet in service.

It could be just that's it's not set up. There are still issues with some headcodes not being accepted.
