Artic stuck under a bridge at Diss, Driver was reported as trapped
I witnessed the road incident. The driver of the artic stopped just before he would have hit the bridge! I saw him do a 21-point turn using the petrol station entrance, then after holding up train and traffic for a quarter-hour, he drove away looking a bit sheepish, towards the industrial estate road.

Those schedules aren't particularly taxing. Years ago 317s occasionally chucked out on the 1130 Norwich including some spirited runs.

Yes, they are not taxing at all. 317's get a better start due to better low down acceleration, but the loco hauled trains reach 100mph quicker - so acceleration wise almost even. Also the EMU's seem to have much better brakes compared to the loco hauled stock - which tends to mean slightly faster station approaches.

Not happening. The PRM dispensation will most likely be extended. Third unit as I understand it will be fairly soon, but they aren't going to be introducing 8 more units in 4 weeks.

Not a hope, not been a single extra one enter serivce for 3-4 weeks after the first two, the old hard luck story tact won't change that.

would welcome any advice - keen to get a Saturday trip (best day for me) on class 90 and Mk3 before the Flirts take over all services, but want to avoid days with engineering work (bus replacements) of which there seems to be a lot over coming weeks.

Can anyone suggest forthcoming Saturdays in March / April when a) no bus replacement services on Anglia Main line and b) loco hauled services in operation?

I'd get a walk up ticket for flexibility as would wish to avoid a risk associated with advance booking on a train that then turned out to be not the rolling stock I'm looking for.

There are still very few 745s in use - any weekend without engineering work will do at the moment, the next 4 Saturdays all look fine (though they won't be serving London, services will be turning round at Shenfield/Ingatestone)

This page has all the planned service alterations:

If you buy an off peak day return you can just wait for the next train (30 mins) if you don't like the one currently boarding and you can sit where you want. Remember that 1st class occupies the coaches at the London end of the train.

Weekend first would also allow you to sit where you want:

Tomorrow will be the anniversary of the delivery of the first of the 20 745s. Today 18 have yet to enter service. GA don't like rushing things, do they?

Would you prefer them to? The punctuality of the line isn't great at it is, introducing stock before it's ready or the relevant people are in place to operate it would attract a lot more criticism.

Not hearing anything more on the ground regarding the next ones to be introduced. It will come when it comes. Keeps us all interested in the meantime.

Thanks - yes that was my ticketing plan - indeed with an affordable w/e 1st upgrade to make the most of it.

Last time I did Anglia main line it was to sample the then excellent restaurant car which was on the hit list...a few years back now.

Thanks - keen to get the run the whole way from/to Liverpool St - so that probably avoids the next 4 sats. I'd be starting from the southern end.

I take it however, that 90s still get used even when they turn round at Ingatestone/Shenfield?

With respect, surely after all this time they SHOULD be ready. Following experience with the first two units, there has been ample time to apply any mods to the rest of the fleet by now, so all ten IC units should be identical. There has also been plenty of time for staff training.

002 & 006 both out and about today.

Writing off the Forest Gate incident the reliability of the two 745s in traffic has been outstanding. Lets hope I haven't talked anything up and subsequent units perform the same way.

Well I travelled on 010 today for my first trip on a 745. It was fast, quiet and rode very well. The seats aren't the world's greatest but over these relatively short express journeys I can't see that as a major issue. Definitely an improvement on the tired old Mk3s.

745 106 made it as far as north as Dereham for a two week storage. Virtually every spare piece of track on the Mid Norfolk Railway is now being used for storing the 745s and 755s. It left today for Crown Point I believe. (Photo courtesy of the MNR)745.jpg

Funny isn’t it? Just as one operator is about to abolish loco-hauled trains, another (TPE) is introducing brand new ones.

What is the world coming to?

Something certainly transferred to Norwich today.

Is the 745/1 primarily for training the west side or to be used on the east ahead of some 745/0s? Just my useless speculation.
