Last year we lost quite a slew of services still running with droplight stock, with HSTs disappearing from LNER and GWR, and the Caledonian Sleeper going over to mk 5s.

So what's left - and what's likely to be the last place we can enjoy them on regular workings?

I think at the moment we have something like:
- EMR HSTs, due to last until some point this year?
- GA Mk3 sets, also being phased out this year/at the moment?
- Fife loco-hauled with mk2s, expected to last most of the year?
- Still some mk3 sets in Wales?
- A few 'classic' Scotrail HSTs but the plan is for these to be phased out and replaced with sliding door ones ASAP
- The Night Riviera - a candidate for the last surviving service, perhaps for a few years yet?

Have I missed anything?

You've missed the two TFW 67+mk3 sets, but they're going to be phased out by mk4s very soon.

I'm quite confident that the East Midlands HST sets will be the last regular daytime services to have droplight windows and slam doors. Outside that, I think you've hit the nail on the head that the Night Riviera sleeper will be the last remaining relic in TOC service. Might have to contrive a trip down to Cornwall at some point to take advantage of it - I always enjoyed the mark 3 sleepers on the Highland service to Scotland.

Technically it will be the Ex LNER sets when they finally enter service

A prototype for internal window bars was fitted to a Riviera Mark 1 - 5009.

The stock currently only has a derogation to run until 31 March 2023 in any case. I assume discussions are underway about what happens after that.

Whilst that is true, their interest is in ensuring that there are no more injuries or fatalities that anyone could blame them for.

One can only exclaim how we got to this situation.

Lack of personal responsibility I think.

Not seen anything about it. Doesn’t seem to be any time available to do it either?
The whole chiltern franchise is like that. A little like XC (though they seem very good with capacity and good train lengths for each service), wherein it's unsure what to do next. They finished the evergreen stuff. and now seem to be unwilling to commit to anything, are they gonna be electrified? are they going to accept continued to diesel running? are Wabtec still willing to do plug rather than sliding door mk.3 conversions? It's all up in the air with the short extensions they are given.

Do the 442s still have the drop lights in the guards compartment that the guy that died a bit back was using?

Aren't they locked closed?

They were once used to load the catering supplies I believe, but I think they are now used as emergency doors with a lever or something to release the doors from the inside.
