I'm pretty sure when I say this but I will be shocked if the 'Bone' doesn't go to more than one gala this year.

I'm not knocking the Chinnor gala, but it would be nice to have it on a gala where she stretches her legs; the big galas may see her visit as well.

It's been a very long time since I got off 58020 at Potters Bar and I not sure I can remember what they sound like.

Just look at galas that have the right air brake stock to run her. Off the top of my head that's the Mid Norfolk Railway (MNR), East Lancs Railway (ELR), Great Central North (GCRN); they have the stock ready.

The West Somerset Railway (WSR) do have an air braked rake of coaches, so could, but it wasn't built in Swindon so they wouldn't know what it is.

The Severn Valley Railway (SVR) and Swanage could sort something; I'm sure of that.

It could well be a tale of Galas that don't have it visit, which as far as I'm concerned is only a good thing.

SVR gala will have a rake of air brake stock.

It would be nice if they finish off the livery and put the depot plates and nameplates back on, seriously impressive for a small line to have the first 58 to work a train in the uk since 2003

Which livery is it in? Last pic I saw, it was in a blue basecoat which suggests Mainline?

We may be a small line but we also very hilly which'll give 58023 alot of work to do. Seriously a massive achievement to be able to have it for its first ever preservation run and we all excited to see what it can do!

I have to say that I'm a bit confused this morning, reports from one side saying 56/58/31 while others are reporting 2x56 hauling 33053, I can't see how those locos could be identified as each other but obviously daylight will tell, my apologies if it wasn't 58023 moving

That was two 56s delivering 33053 to us as 33201 is poorly so they're being swapped

Thanks for the confirmation, I can understand how the original reports mistook 33053 for a 31 but I think Specsavers are on the alert for a grey 56 being confused with a blue 58 ...... thanks again for clearing it up

From the railways website: (Sad as I had booked cab-ride on this too).
See below re new information about 58023 no longer being available due to transit issues:
We regret very much that 58023 which was due to make the first public appearance for a Class 58 in preservation will NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE and which non-appearance is caused by transit move issues (advice received at 14.00 on 11 Mar).

And the local class 31 in BR research colours) has gone U/S apparently :(

I will probably still go but it is a shame

Yeah I will still go as it's another railway I need to visit and brought tickets, hopefully they can get a good replacement to keep people coming.

it is local to me but is a bit of a pita to get to. However the 58 made it worth the trip. I will still go mainly because they have a Deltic. That will be a bit like driving an F1 car round the local carpark mind!

That's a pity it would have been a good pay day for the line, now it's just a guessing game as to where its going to make its debut, SVR, MNR or ELR would be my guess

That’s a real shame, that would have been the star of the show for me. I’ll still go for the Deltic though

I expect the elastic bands fell off it. Usual 58 trick to avoid a bit of work.

This event is now postponed until later in the year, possibly October depending on the situation.

Very wise, only a matter of time before other galas go the same way I'm sure, the earlier the decisions are made the better while the current easing of refunds of apex tickets/travelodge's are still in place Swanage may be the next to be punted down the road
