There will be no cancelled train, no train faults and every thing will be all nice and fine.

NICE is what I think the name of a new Northern + TPE franchise should be called.

Northern Inter City Express

With John Thomson's 'Jazz Club' character from the Fast Show spearheading a bold new advertising campaign.

"The train has turned up...nice."

Allegedly, OLR leaders Robin Gisby and Richard George have 100 days to produce a turnround plan.
If Andy Burnham is part of the advisory board maybe he will be a little more constructive with his criticism.

Well the new franchise already have their work cut out with no trains running from Sheffield.

Be interesting to see how they cope as it's literally no trains running from north of the station

My guess is exactly the same as old Northern would've, being all the same staff on the ground...

I wonder if they will splash out for a hoover for the train floors.
More cleaning is basically the only thing they have announced. Presumably as it’s easy and cheap to just recruit a few more minimum wage agency cleaners rather than doing something significant.

I’m waiting with baited breath that they announce something more significant tomorrow or in the near future.

Cleaning is mentioned:
£20m at Newton Heath (as part of the CAF building) and £6m at Allerton is reportedly being invested in new cleaning facilities.
Their website also states
"A major deep cleaning program has also commenced today, along with an overhaul of on-board cleanliness, to make sure carriages meet the high standards passengers deserve."
Any ideas on the 30 platform extensions? Aire and Wharfe?

Does anyone know what's become of David Brown & the rest of the management board for Arriva Northern?

Phil Whittingham & most of his cronies from Virgin basically moved across to Avanti in December keeping their same jobs.

I don't think that's happened here - I'm wondering if Mr Brown is now officially unemployed this morning?

I'll believe the improvement in cleanliness if I see it. If every journey is to be made on a clean train, they'll have to ban half of Northern's passengers.

The seats are the worst. Trying to find one that isn't filthy.

What about the unit refurbishments - will they continue or are they all stopped now?

That's a good question. I hope they continue them and finish the job.

From their slightly hyperbolic press release, I'm left wondering something:

https://media.northernrailway.co.uk/news/northern-franchise-enters-new-future

"Capacity will be further boosted with the roll-out of more electric trains across the network next year, in addition to the extra capacity already being delivered by the new fleet. "

What are these additional electric trains?

Class 365s maybe? Aren't they owned by the DFT?

I think the general consensus in the last thread before it was locked was that it'd be 365s which are currently at Crewe

Or more 323s in ex LNR than 319s going off lease.

As a regular Northern user. Properly cleaning the trains counts as very significant
