I understand that its down to business needs within the organisation and i'm just a small fish in a pool of talent. But my life has been on hold for nearly 18 months. I haven't been on a family holiday, due to being worried about missing assessments and course start dates and turned down several promotions at work. I suppose that's just the nature of the beast. All my eggs are in the basket of being on the October course it would just be nice to have a heads up weather to keep on waiting or get on with my life.
Just at the beginning of my journey to become a driver, I wouldn't like to think I would be going through anything similar to yourself and after reading the other comments on here I've taken the initiative and started applying to other TOC's

Got an email from emr on Friday saying sometime in the summer for stage 2. Seems like I missed out on the first wave of assessment slots.

same for me. Does that mean that the stages after that will happen in fairly quick succession or is this going to drag out past Christmas? Fortunately I can remain in my current job until June 21 but would rather push on with this but I will still need to look at alternatives, just in case!!

Same for me to, guess we're all in the same boat.
I'm hoping once we get a date for our assessment day the next 2 stages will follow fairly quickly. The guys who have had their assessment days last Wednesday and tomorrow should be having their DMI's (Stage 3) 9th-13th March and then their Driver testing part 2 (stage 4) w/c 23/3, if it still goes to the original plan, although that's highly doubtful judging by previous timelines. So if that's anything to go by then I'm hoping ours maybe in quick succession too.

I was hoping that I was gonna be on the March courses, out of work at the moment so going to have to look for something in the meantime.

Remember that this is a Talent Pool vacancy with potential start dates over the next two years, so there could be a lengthy wait for an actual start date even once you’re in the pool.
It’s important to carry on with life as normal and not put it on hold. :)

I’m not in a talent pool for EMT, I’m in the 2020/21 pool for GWR, but I assume that it’s rare to sit in the pool and never actually get an offer right?

I’m happy waiting for the opportunity but it would be gutting to sit there waiting then eventually the process ‘times out’.

Apologies if I am being dense.

I was wondering if anyone knew how candidates are put through to stage 2. I got an email a few days after attending Derby stating I had passed, so I prepared for stage 2 in late Feb, but now have an email indicating to wait til summer.

I do also understand it is a lengthy process and have utmost respect for those who have been waiting for nearly 2 years.

Thanks in advance :)

Did you do your stage 1 on Friday 14th? If so I think all the successful candidates have been allocated summer dates for the next stage (assessment days - stage 2) although these dates have not yet been identified. It is a seemingly long process and for those of us who did the stage one on the Friday, it's going to be that bit longer.

I went through this last year. Stage 1 in March, assessment day in July, interview in September and Stage 2 in November. Finally getting the good news that I'm in the talent pool around mid November. It's a long process, but to be fair to HR, they kept me informed via email.

Was that with EMR? Does your TOC keep you regularly updated on your chance of employment or what the future for the pool holds? Once in the pool, do they then work down a list for selecting people or do you then have to compete against everyone else in the talent pool?
What was involved in Stage 2?

Its an unusual way of recruitment.

Having been in the same career for the past 23yrs, I haven't had the "option" to hop between jobs at the drop of a hat and so this is all very new to me.

I did it on the Tuesday 11th mate with no confirmed date as such - hopefully some more clarity soon.

Yep, it is for EMR.

From the email they sent me it seems they start at the top and work their way down the list, but it says they consider factors such as time until assessments expire and interview scores. I get the impression that a new list is created for each recruitment drive, that expiry dates is the big influencer and that once in, there's no more competition for places - I could be wrong though!!. They didn't mention anything about the possibility of not being offered a job - but then again they wouldn't. HR seem to email every 3 months or so with a 'hi, we've not forgotten about you' email...

It's unusual, but in my current job in the emergency services it's normal for successful candidates for a specialist position to be placed into a pool for up to 18 months until a vacancy becomes available. I know of people who have had to re-apply for positions having dropped out of the pool due to time limits. Doesn't seem fair - but then again, if there's no position - there's no position... As a previous poster has said before, all you can do is apply, try your best and carry on as normal. I certainly wouldn't make any firm plans (and have only told a couple of colleagues at work) until that contract is signed.

Stage 2 is the computer based assessments (there's loads of posts on the forum about these, followed by the competency based interview. In my case this was held with just one other candidate in a small conference room at a hotel in Nottingham and run by the same people that did the stage 1.

Good luck....

Hi Please note, it's Group Bourdon. Stage 1 consists of: Group Bourdon, TEA-Occ, TRP1 and TRP2.

Is that the one where you have to arrange them in size order? If so I failed that one, I missed breakfast so ate three of the biscuits and couldn't complete the test.

I can't think of a response to top yours - well done

Bit confused about the mention of following the same validity as the OPC. Stage 1 will go from 2 years to 5 years validity but stage 2 will remain at 2 years? Does OPC only validate stage 2 for 2 years?

Hi Snape, I'm in the talent pool too and I got this email, i may be wrong but i think the reference to the OPC is a typo, I'm not certain but i think the 5 year validity is in line with the majority of other TOCs so this is what this sentence was meant to say. Could be wrong mind you.
