How long do we think before an announcement that the stored ones are off to Northern? :)

I don’t really see what Northern could do with them, as they’re already committed to the 323s which are slightly more suited to Northern’s needs.

I’d say GA or even LNwR would be ones to watch if they ended up going DOR.

I'm not honestly sure what they'll do with them - the reason they're off-lease is mirrored across the country - with electrification cutbacks we have more EMUs than we can really use.

I rate the 365s and they're too good for the scrapheap but as others have said, where would Northern use them? It would take a lot more electrification and it's more likely they'd end up taking all 26 of the 323s from the West Midlands.

How about Southeastern if that goes DOR? Switch them to shoegear and they can go on London to Tunbridge Wells, Dover Priory etc., allowing 465/9s to be cascaded back onto 'Metro' routes.

All of the DC equipment was thrown away and Southeastern got 377s for that exact purpose.

377s came in and relieved 465/9s of 99% of Maidstone East Line operations and maybe a couple of others. But CHX-Tunbridge Wells is still 99% Networkers and Dover Priory runs are still a thing for them, because Electrostars are not numerous enough.

While there is no evidence to suggest current 365s will return to SE, what Vivarail have done to old Underground stock shows it's not impossible for them to be converted. Whatever the case, SE cannot get any extra stock now without the provision of more storage space, bu that's another story.

More 465s on Metro also wouldn't allow 12-car running as no SDO.

other than the old ‘it’s a solution looking for a problem’, would they be remotely suited to replacing the old and sluggish 319s?

As above, the Class 319s are already slated for replacement by Class 323.

Could bringing in the 365s to Northern allow for permanent 6 car workings on the 323 and 331 fleet (excluding the 4 car variants)? Or are there enough 323s and 331s to perform 6 car operations, once all are introduced?

Only 17 323s are being claimed from WMT. There’s nine more units potentially available if needed.

Oh yes I understand that. What I’m unclear on is to what degree we could see doubled-up 323 and 331 services, just like what we have seen on Blackpool-Hazel Grove and on the Birmingham cross city line.
