Caused a significant amount of damage. Lots of glass and debris around. Expected to be shut until at least midday whilst police carry out their investigations.

Broken glass everywhere. Buses from Newcastle.

Can’t find any indication of how long the station will be closed. I’m booked on the 1132, arriving BWK 1219, returning 1450, so hardly worth going as I expect a bus will take longer. Advance tickets.

If it’s still buses when my train from NCL is due to depart would I be able to claim my money back if I decide not to travel? Be a bit tricky on the TPE (bought my tickets on it) claim form as they might be running again by my return time.

Mainly just wondering if anyone has any idea what sort of time these problems take to deal with and re-open the station.

Thanks. On plan B now, info kiosk at Newcastle told me to jump on the LNER 1042 and change to a bus at Alnmouth. I do love these impromptu trips! I will worry about getting back later :) .

Ticket acceptance on LNER with additional stops at Alnmouth. No sign of any buses, apparently it had left Berwick but as it’s 45 minutes to Alnmouth we could be waiting ages. Think I will abandon my trip and get the next train back to Newcastle. A few disgruntled people waiting here, who expected a bus to be waiting. Just been told the one that’s on its way may not be going back to Berwick, another one has just left so we’re looking at 12:20ish before it even gets here.

Happens a lot in places like this, nice and quiet at night (Co-Op is a prime target too here in West Yorkshire!)

Also out of interest do NatWest hold a contract with the railway for cash machines as the vast majority of stations round here (Leeds, Wakefield) seem to be NatWest branded

Cash machine was taken in a ram raid at Wigan North West recently. Side entrance could be used no problems.

Same thing happened at Lancaster and they just closed one entrance. Does Berwick have more than one, though? Bletchley doesn't.

Just the one entrance, leading to footbridge which accesses both platforms

No trains are stopping at a railway station after a cash machine there was blown up.

Images from outside Berwick-upon-Tweed station showed windows had been smashed, with glass on the pavement.

British Transport Police were called just before 03:50 GMT after an explosive was used to blow up the machine and cash was stolen.

A spokesman confirmed the raiders fled the scene. The station is shut and a bus replacement service is running.

Buses seem to be running to and from Alnmouth (about 30 miles South of Berwick), as LNER say that certain trains which were due to call at Berwick will call at Alnmouth instead. Bit of an inconvenience for those wishing to travel from Berwick to Edinburgh and beyond.

I mean if you were in both locations surely the conclusion to be drawn is that in fact you are the person responsible for the attacks! J'Accuse!

;)

Haha, but afraid I keep arriving after the event. I did get sniffed by a police sniffer dog this morning at Newcastle station though, but it found me not guilty!
