I'm sure that BoS will be sorting some driver welfare facilities and, hopefully, they will retain some form of travel shop/enquiry office in Taunton. How vehicles will layover is going to be a bit of a challenge that isn't really explained though, in fairness, there's no reason why they'd explain that in their press release. Just rather sad to see the end of an era and a place that I've been to plenty of times since I first visited nearly 30 years ago!

What's the chance that the travel shop / enquiry office is merged with the Tourist Information Centre that located below the Tone FM studios or could BoS gone down the Worcester route and instead have an unmanned information point or leaflet holders stuck in the bus stops around The Parade to which passengers can pick up the latest timetable?

As for driver welfare facilities, could BoS in the interim retain the bus station but use it instead as a staff only facility until a portakabin of some description is placed somewhere nearby probably on Castle Way?

It's usual nowadays for operators/councils to see the sell of bus station sites as a useful form of revenue and happily ignore any protests from the users (and operators), however it does feel that if somebody actually issued a closure notice for Yeovil most of the users would be organising a protest to bring the date forward!

In West Yorkshire, the Combined Authority are looking at wasting more taxpayers cash on rebuilding Halifax's bus station, when there's perfectly useable bus stops dotted around the dying town. I've noticed more people board in the centre than at the bus station. In the recent consultation it seems that Metro are not happy at my idea of flogging the land off and using the cash to pay for improvements to bus services such as later running on selected routes. Then again the bogs are knackered, the travel shop is cramped, there's no cafe as that went years ago and the newsagent is overpriced.

Hi Mike

As for Yeovil.... I am generally in favour of bus stations and decent facilities for passengers. However, Yeovil's bus station is depressing and now some distance from the main shopping areas, with Yeovil being one of the most prominent examples of a contracting high street in the area, and you'd think that it might be better to vacate and have a set of stops on Borough and Silver Street instead.
Hi Wazoo,
Regards Yeovil several folk around here have said similar to the Borough/Silver Street set-up with the taxi-ranks moving some place else which no doubt will get complaints from that sector but there's little scope around the town space wise for much else unless if buildings are knocked down as mooted on plans the general lay-out of the town alters.
Horrible depressing place Yeovil bus station I'm afraid, not the place to be after dark.
Cheers, Mike

Maybe it will be named after the railway line that ran through the area until 1963 (?)
Yes good point. That same line which my old school used to give rather a lot of trade to at the end of term. Either "Strawberry Explorer" or "Strawberry Line" with buses painted a brighter red than the gas buses in Bristol. Hmm.....

I wonder what the future holds for the 6/7 branded LT52 B7TLs when the gas buses enter service?

I’d imagine they’d be send for scrap. Some of them have done over a million miles, so they deserve to be put out of there misery.

I have heard sometime in the next couple of weeks once they have all be branded and prepared for service.

The other question is will we begin to see some B9s and Streetlites appear in South Glos Lynx livery?

They have started to be moved to Parson Street
I'm not familiar with the Parson Street premises. Is there a lot of space to store these withdrawn buses only the last lot of withdrawals (31143 and the KP51s) are or were reported there.

It has quite a lot of space! I just know most of the 6/7 branded buses have been moved there today. ready for gas buses tomorrow!

The 3/4 fleet were reported there though I couldn’t see them a few weeks ago. It’s a very large yard with a small set of workshops

Hello everyone. I'm glad there's a thread on First South West and Wales.

I know this is for the Trip planning and trip reports thread but seen as it's a First South West and Wales subject I thought I'd mention:

Tomorrow I'm making my first trip to Swansea but by GWR service (but for a few hours from Didcot) and I'll be catching one of the route 2's to and from Swansea City and Oystermouth (somewhere to go by bus). I'll know to get the £3 Swansea plus bus pass at Didcot Parkway in the morning.

Just out of curiosity, what type of vehicle runs the 2's in Swansea? I understand First in Swansea run this route.

Still not enough gas buses to fully cover the 6 & 7 services this morning. I note 39404 has not, according to bus times, had an outing for a few days, is this vehicle sick.

The majority appear to still be at Avonmouth along with at least one of the red ones.

It is a joke up Gloucester Road! Such poor timing!

It's not the timing, it's the council allowing parking on both sides of the road. My dad was fined for parking on the wrong side of the road over 50 years ago when parking was only allowed on one side dependant on whether it was an odd or even day of the month and he had parked where the road widened near the site of the Premier Cinema, no change in the road layout in the intervening 50 years but parking now allowed both sides.
