Yes mate, of course it's a Mk3 as far more important to illuminate & crewed from the Norwich end.

Thanks. I assume that every extra 745 diagram automatically means one fewer Mk3 diagram and that the two 321s will be the last ones to convert - even if they don't end up having to add more of these first?

Yes to an extent but should the full complement of 745s not be ready by 31st March then the training of select Norwich crews on 321s will kick in & they will then cover additional carefully diagrammed 90/DVT diagrams for a short period.

Well there’s a disability rules derogation from DfT that runs out on April 1st...
Robbing the Renatus bins off other routes to cover the Norwich line simply means more non compliant 321s (and more short forms) on other routes so what have they gained?

More 317s ex LO to cover?
Well that's a thought but I can't see it happening. Even when all 10 745s are up and running, they'll still need two pairs of bins until the 720s are up and running.

Any news of Greater Anglia doing a farewell run for the loco hauled sets? Would seem appropriate.

Reported locally (in Anglia that is...) that 90015 has worked its last service for GA today (1930 LST-NRW). Apparently the loco is due exam. With 90014 already at Crewe undergoing exam that means effectively 2 out of 15 are stood down

Just the 6 locos in service today (that I saw) - 001, 003, 005, 007, 008, 015.

That was indeed the word on the street earlier today. Seems to work OK though, the 19.30 was 5 late at Ilford due to the speed restriction at Maryland but early into Colchester. Anyone want to put in an offer for the Colchester Castle nameplates?

you'd think it would be easier to get the derogation for the mk3s extended until the 745s are all in service...? Less hassle all round.
But then we are talking DfT bureaucracy here so this short-term solution might actually be easier.

I have just received a photo of the toilet door in the quiet coach on the 1330 NRW- LST last Friday 6/3 or rather the space where the toilet door should be as what was there was a space and some yellow tape. Clearly these sets must be in dire straights to put such a vehicle into public service.

Are the Anglia sets fitted with CET toilets does anyone know
The only Mk3s with CET toilets are the coaches modified with power operated doors, the Chiltern loco hauled coaches and the HST coaches operated by Cross Country, GWR and Scotrail.

That is incorrect. The Anglia Mark 3s have CETs - that is why one toilet was taken out of use in each vehicle, as there is only space for a discharge tank at one end of the vehicle.

So if they have CET plugs by seats and wi fi, not to mention CDL, why arnt NR insisting on the charter companies having to use them over the MK1/2s, I know we prefer them over new stock but they really shouldn't still be on the mainline in this day and age

Incorrect as mk3 sleepers were built with CET tanks from that start aside from the comments already raised about Anglia Mk3s being fitted in the last refurb.

They are (were) air brake and electric heat air condition stock. Not many steam locomotives could cope with that combination for a start.

One or two coaches now without working heating on a couple of recent journeys. By contrast someone asked for the heat to be turned down on tonight’s 745 trip home.

Who says they aren't? The existing charter stock can run until 31 March 2023. Discussions about what happens after that are no doubt in progress.

Mark 3s have a more restrictive loading gauge than Mark 1s and 2s.

Can you do that out of interest or is it all pre set and computer controlled?
It's set at 21 degrees & cannot be altered by traincrew. I have tried many times as I find them uncomfortabley warm in the saloons. The cabs however can be become a fridge or a sauna to suit the individual with opening windows if you prefer fresh air :D

Yes, you have to remember to taker coats and fleeces off on long journeys ...or you start to cook! Trouble is for some people even 21 deg c is too cold, and for others it is like a sauna. You just cannot please everyone. (whoops - realised we are all OT here - this should be in the 745 thread!! )
Getting back to Mk 3's, had a trip on one yesterday - immediately after coming out of a 745, and there is no contest. The Mk 3's have had their day in every sense. There isn't a single reason to want to be sitting in a mk 3 over a 745. But with two weeks to go and only 3 out of 5 available 745's in service, i wonder whether some of the Mk3 sets can be extended beyond the end of the month. It is looking even more unlikely we will have even had a dozen 745's running reliably daily by the end of the month at this rate.

That is true and the reason why some charter companies invested in generator vans as did the CIE.

Incase anyone wasn’t already aware GA has sent the first of the mark 3 rakes for scrapping as published in the recent edition of Rail magazine?

Hi,

I was wondering how many loco hauled sets will be out tomorrow and/or Sunday and what services they'll be on, if anyone knows?

Many thanks,

Sam

If you're out to ride them this weekend, bear in mind there is engineering work and Norwich services will not run south of Ingatestone.
