Yeah, I read it as any penalties (paid by Bombardier to GA) should be passed on to commuters (ie reduced ticket prices).
OK. I read it as penalties paid by GA to DfT (for not delivering the services as contracted) should be paid for by tickets. I would not put that past someone who doesn't want her own parents to immigrate.

Better late than never to admit that I suppose. 720s were never going to be ready until a few months after testing began and as far as I can tell, despite a unit or two having been delivered some time ago, testing still hasn't begun.

What that article doesn't mention of course is that spring 2020 was already 15 months behind schedule...
Yes but GA were celebrating the first one being at Ilford on 15/1

https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/abo...-anglias-new-commuter-trains-arrives-in-essex

telling us
The Bombardier electric trains are expected to enter passenger service this spring and should all be in service by spring 2021

yet it appears it hasn't left Ilford in two months.

SWR's 701 has been banging in the miles at Velim so its bizarre they can't even get one out for testing.

If the 360's have to go then short forms or service thinning is going to be necessary and no doubt PRM extension for the 321's will be required as well. Also very fortuitous the 379's have never been rehomed

I suspect the likely capacity/service reductions following the virus outbreak will mitigate against any delays in the new rolling stock.

Whilst trains won’t can’t the virus staff and passengers will meaning likely to be less staff able to work to move less passengers around which means overall you probably need less trains.

The 720’s are still going through gauging and proving at Ilford so they can get signed off to test on the mainline according to some one on the New Trains team.

Indeed, and when things get back to normal GA can use an increase in demand to justify overcrowding rather than their failed plans that involved the fleet shrinking since the old stock departed long before the replacements were ready.

They won't turn down that get out of jail free card.

On another forum it has been claimed 720 509 will be out from Ilford around 22:00 ...

On Monday night perhaps. RTT is showing a couple of STP trips to Southend Vic.
5Q01 22.11 from the Car Sheds to Liverpool St being the first leg.

There won’t be a getting back to normal will there?
A likely recession plus permanent change to working practices will keep demand suppressed?

Sadly I don’t think there is going to be any “getting back to normal” anytime soon.

And there are 321s in storage. Seems strange they haven't taken them on

If you are talking about the 321/9s and Class 322s don't Northern still have these? In any event with the Clas 360s going to EMR soon via a refurbishment and no sign of Class 720s the 321 / 322s from Northern may well assist.

Were there any off-lease 321/4s that weren't converted to 320s?

Thanks, methinks too many operators nowadays. T'was easier to understand / run the railway back in BR days. when the original Chenford GEC EMU's (AM5?) started dying back in '60/'61 the service was kept running by borrowing unused LT&S 4-car sets, with the intermediate trailer removed. They could & did couple with any other units, excepting the Shenfield sliding door sets. FWIW, one of the 4-car Crewe-Liverpool units was borrowed too. Happy days...........

Was cancelled between Liverpool Street and Ilford EMUD, now heading towards SOV. First 720 finally out on the tracks.
