Hi All,

My mum wants to travel from Sheffield to Birmingham later this year with a group of 4 friends, some of whom will be travelling from Chesterfield. Can the Chesterfield contingent start and end short if I book the travel for them all from Sheffield please?

To obtain a group discounts, the whole group must travel together at all times.

What group discount are you expecting from Sheffield to Birmingham anyway? Unless there's at least 10 of you, or you hold a railcard, there isn't one.

No discount - I just want to book their travel together, reservations, etc.

Apologies, I misunderstood. If you buy Anytime or Off-Peak tickets for them, then the answer is broadly "yes".

If you buy Advance tickets for them, then the answer is "no". This is because Advance tickets can't involve a break of journey - you must use them to / from the named stations.

I recommend booking the tickets from the respective stations and not starting short.

If you want seats together use any website that offers a seat selector, for example XC has a seat selector which works for their own services only, or Trainsplit has a seat selector for any train company. Neither site charges a booking fee.

Book the ones from Sheffield first.

Thanks for all your replies, who knows whether this will happen (it's a group of, shall we say, not first flush of youth ladies).
