Arriva North East introducing a mostly hourly or in some cases two hourly or half hourly service with Saturday start times from Monday 23/3, Sundays unchanged.

Go North East have now also announced they will be running a Sunday Service, with additional early morning journeys, and some services running different timetables if they don’t run on a sunday.

The AD122 and Toon Tour summer services will not commence and won’t operate this year

Though weirdly, the very irregular 689 sees a huge increase in levels of service, with four buses a day in each direction Monday to Saturday. I always assumed the higher Saturday service was due to leisure demand, which will be effectively zero, so that seems an odd decision.

@dvboy do you have a link for details on pausing season tickets, I know colleagues who will be affected but can only find info about ENCTS restrictions being lifted... Thanks

May be a corporate scheme thing, it was on our work intranet

No harm in phoning up and asking though.

From the Lothian thread but its better placed here:

traffic commissioner has said things can be changed at short notice

It also helps that the offices are all closed since the start of the week, However there were only able to make cuts once schools shut and lockdown started to come into place. As soon as the goverment give the thumbs up, full service must be restored. H

However I do believe bus companies will lose passengers over this because of their failures to take note of all passengers needs with the inadequate sunday service.... I dont mean freqs... I think the complaints will increase over the next couple of days...

If you don't think the problem is frequencies, what do you think it is?

I Suspect he menas routes that don't get any services on a Sunday, or at least none before lunch.

In Oxfordshire many of the core routes are running a Sunday service with extra morning journeys, routes into the rural areas are either running a Saturday service or a special timetable with a frequency reduction.

Phil getting a getting it. .

The Current Bus network need to operate for what the country is now in , not on routes when everything was open. Services need to be geared to getting people to work, supermarkets and Hospitals and that's it. You dont need a bus every 10mins to closed shops, you do need buses to get to hospitals, places of work etc which in some case have been forgotten about..

To be fair, in all the examples I have seen so far, where buses don't normally run on Sunday the operator is keeping a service running, helped by reducing the "core" network. I admit I have not seen every companies information, but that's the gist of what I've seen to date.

That more or less parallels with the Hull based bus company that they own: https://www.eastyorkshirebuses.co.uk/coronavirus

Coronavirus (COVID19) update

An update on coronavirus (COVID-19) and buses
Update: 8am, 20 March 2020

All services currently running as normal, but we will move to a temporary timetable from Monday 23 March (see below).
We ask that you follow some simple advice when using buses (see below).
Concessionary passengers can now use their passes at any time.
From Monday 23 March, in response to the coronavirus pandemic, we’ll be temporarily changing our timetables.

Most services will run to a Sunday timetable, but with extra early morning journeys to allow workers to travel. Routes which don’t have Sunday buses will also have a special timetable.

Lockdown? I've heard about this since monday, and as soon schools were shutting that give us the biggest clue.

I believe even with the reduced resources, a better service could operate to better match actually demands.

It does seems that many places are expecting to see further cuts to their bus networks from 30th March. Bringing services levels closer to what stagecoach management has done in Scotland.

No, there was no indication that a reduction in bus services was going to result in anywhere being completely unserved.

at the end of the high and low roads
I think it's fair to say that the most frequent route on temporary timetables is the Stagecoach Manchester 192 running every 5 minutes.
I'm not familiar with the 192 other than its infamy during the bus wars!

Glancing at the post 23rd March timetable it does offer a 5 minute frequency over the core with a 10 minute frequency on each of the two extremities, one of which serves a hospital.

As I say I'm not familiar so could be out of my depth but that frequency does seem like an over provision given they are only supposed to be catering for essential unavoidable travel.

Given that the timetable appears to be straight off the system used for drivers running boards (complete with low bridge warning!) I wonder how 'carefully created' this timetable is as it seems pretty similar to the pre 23rd March timetable?

The Hazel Grove 192 does go past Stepping Hill Hospital but stops on the main road. The terminators stop inside.

On normal times, the 192 runs every 3.3 minutes (18bph), Every 10 mins to Hazel Grove, Stepping Hill and Longsight. The Longsight shorts are just dropped.
