First go on over, 745002 1100 Norwich to Stratford. Smattering on board but the driver still had to tell people to spread out.
Feels just like a 755, but much more sensation of speed over a class 90.

The Yarmouth train had one other person on it!
Good to see cleaners straight on at Norwich

Not really. It's nice to have new trains on the outer GEML instead of hand-me-downs for the first time since ...? 1960s?
And how do you think rural communities in Wales feel and Wales in general we are getting new stock of decent quality since then if not earlier and some rural ones will still be on it it's the way it is

I wonder what it would be like comparing 12 car class 700s with the class 745 flirts?
They are rather different trains, the 745 has shorter carrriages and is configured for an intercity route, you wouldn't put a buffet on thameslink.

What is becoming clear is how well the 745s perform on the road now to the point that they are having to be reigned back to avoid arriving too early. We have witnessed a variety of driving styles including:
Full acceleration but running at lower maximum speeds I.E 90mph as opposed to 100mph ( on the 100mph sections), using much less than full power to accelerate - mimicking a Class 90's acceleration, earlier and longer stretches of coasting approaching station stops ..at times some of the longest and slowest crawls along platforms that i have ever experienced. All evidence that as soon as the 90s are off lease..the temporary timetable could be speeded up significantly while there is so little traffic on the GEML.

Due to EDF power issues drivers are requested to limit power to 75% between Hall Green (North of Diss) & Manningtree neutral sections. This does not apply to 755 units however.

No comparison, I would take the 745 every time..better comfort and ambience..more table seats that line up with windows. Better ride.
Performance wise they are almost identical! I do prefer the external design of the Stadler train too.

Thanks for that snippet of useful info. How long has that been in force?

But I am not comparing them for speed and best service I am comparing them with seating and which one has the most chances of overcrowding!

There is a lot of slack in this timetable. Looking at the more detailed version of Realtime trains..the station to station running times were in line with what most 745s achieve on a daily basis - just much shorter dwell times..

i call them Iron Man due to the way the front looks like Iron Man's mask
I call them 745s. Sorry, but nicknames will only work if there is one generally accepted name - as this thread has demonstrated, that has not yet happened so people are bound to get confused.

But I am not comparing them for speed and best service I am comparing them with seating and which one has the most chances of overcrowding!
That's nothing to do with the train you realise - it's to do with the services they operate. Under pre-covid circumstances the 700s were more likely to be 'overcrowded' but due to their layout, they could have plenty of people standing and not be overcrowded. A 745 on the other hand could be argued to be overcrowded if it had anybody standing. It's not really a valid question.

The Siemsn Class 700 is a high-density metro design interior. I read that a 12-car Class 700 has 666 seats - but is designed to additionally carry an additional 1088 standing passengers
Class 745/0 has 752 seats - and i would imagine a lot less standing capacity.
So the Class 745 offers more seats - but less standing room. I certainly wouldn't want to be one of the 1088 standing pax on a Class 700!! And not now!

I wouldn't want to be pax of any kind right now, but standing on a 700 isn't something i've had to endure for any great distance.

Agreed! I have been on a packed 700 in peak time out of kentish Town in better times. Think it was an 8-car to Luton.

Leaving aside current circumstances, I would quite like to be on a 12x700 with 1088 standing pax, as this would be a reduction to normal on the trains I tend to get.

Purely out of interest were any 90+ MARK 3s out today for a final swansong. I kept this question until this afternoon to prevent a possible breach in social distancing rules.

A pity if the era of loco hauled coaching stock has passed without ceremony but there are far more important things at the moment.

Younger members of this forum may be able to witness the demise of the FLIRTS in years to come.

No, they quietly retired with no fanfare last week, sad but unavoidable.

Not so fast! There are still a fair few locos hauling coaches around in various parts of the country (or would be were if it not for lock-down), including London Marylebone - Birmingham Snow Hill, Liverpool - Scarborough, and possibly others - eg the Fife circulars. And likely to be for quite a while.
