I'm loving the fact I can cook right now. Went to asda Friday night and got everything I needed for making real food, whereas all the ready made/frozen stuff was sold out.
M&S had excellent availability today.

Me wonders if some of the population's waistlines may benefit now that the likes of McDonald's et al have closed
Note : I'm genuinely sorry for employee's hardship at this time before anyone takes my comment the wrong way.
I think my weight will be going up, I burn a lot of calories at work covering up to 14km in a shift plus doing lifting, bending and carrying things. Now I'll just be going for a walk and eating a lot!

Walked up to St Albans city centre in perfect weather - both Tesco and M+S open and well stocked , the former having taken on 16 extra staff this am , and modestly busy. Whilst there are still gaps (especially in the fresh meat department) , if this level of supply and demand can be maintained , it should be OK. Long way to go though.
Not a lot of people around of course , but an element of politeness and well wishing of good day etc.

Just went to one of my nearby Sainsbury Locals. The shelves were all really well stocked. I managed to get everything I wanted.
A massive contrast to last week when I was having trouble getting any meat or veg and there were loads of empty shelves.

Asda today: reasonably well stocked, though still no bog roll/kitchen paper, tinned tomatoes, rice or pasta. Plenty of fruit and veg again, though strangely no fresh basil, either in a pot or a little bag, though plenty of the other herbs. A shame as I had been planning on spaghetti puttanesca.

what are on line orders and deliveries like? I am ok for food but will need to stock up at some point
I've used Asda for years with no problems at all, but I've heard supermarkets are no longer taking new registrations for home delivery. Sainsbury's is definitely one of them.

It's currently impossible here.
Booked up near me, but Asda's booking window is 4 weeks and new slots are released every day, when it is released is a different matter, I tried about 30 mins ago, had a slot for 14th April, in fact there were 4 slots, I chose the earliest slot as the delivery driver said it would be your best bet as the pickers for the early slots start before the store opens. I clicked it, then it said 'technical difficulties' tried again.. yep, all the slots had gone.
I'll keep my eye on it tomorrow.thejuggler

Just been to local Aldi. No more than 10 cars in the car park, plenty of stock. Low on fresh meat, but options available. They were also restocking. Plenty of bread and milk, but fully skimmed is still unavailable.

Same for me. No slots available at all. Tried Sainsbury and it said it was prioritising old, vulnerable and disabled customers of which it determined I wasn't one. This is correct. As a result I was denied access to view the delivery slots.
I didn't both checking delivery slot availability with any other supermarkets.

Not sure. I had a Sainsbury home delivery once several years ago and have not logged into my account on their website since.
I presume they assume you are not a priority unless you inform them otherwise.
I've not cooked as much ever as I have in the last few weeks, did you know if you boil pasta it tastes a lot better ?!?

Er, what else were you doing with it?
I went to my local Aldi this morning rather than Tesco, much the same. Few cars, customers all distancing themselves and well stocked with the exception of bog and kitchen roll. Two shelves of macaroni though no other pasta. Not a great variety of meat but I was able to get chicken and mince, which I’ve not seen in ages. Everything else plentiful minus a few gaps.
Gives me confidence that we are getting the shops slowly back to normal.
I looked a couple of days ago - in the early hours of the morning there were slots available, but only for the one day in about 3 weeks time.
Morrisons are now doing £35 food boxes, which are available, but you don't get any choice of what's in it (other than meat / vegetarian).

Agreed. Perhaps this should actually replace their whole delivery offer for now? Though if doing that they would need to add allergy options.
Our local greengrocer stall is taking orders for fruit & veg boxes and delivering them across North Herts. Large box £15 Extra large £25 plus option of small additional salad box. Contents will depend on stock available on the day as supplies they can obtain have been variable and they spent a lot of time processing specific orders last week with a number of requested items unavailable. So this way they have capacity to take orders for a much larger number of boxes. I have a large box ordered for delivery on Friday so will see what we get ! The staff on the stall are always very helpful.

I can guarantee one thing, there is no shortage of dairy produce, working in a distribution centre that supplies the major supermarkets as well as smaller retailers, we are sending out cheese and butter by the lorry load 24 hours a day, as well as distributing some third party produce too.

but if you plan ahead - maybe freezing it in 1/2 litre pop bottles - then the (cold) energy you have used freezing it gets reclaimed by the fridge not needing to run. (Sorry, it's too late in the day to phrase that more elegantly!)
Anyway, we find that pouring liquid milk out of a bottle that is still partly frozen isn't a problem. As someone else has said, it cools your drink down to drinking temperature a bit quicker...

Apparently the lack of skimmed milk is because the dairies are concentrating on full fat and semi-skimmed only to speed up production.
There is definitely a pasta pie somewhere in Italy (Milan?) as well as in Scotland... I 'll bet that there is some sort of a (genuine Italian) pasta wrap which is re-heated by deep-frying too. Maybe this is a question for the non-rail quiz!

If old people are now seen as vulnerable, then making full fat milk available is a priority. Every time my dad went into hospital he was put on a "building up" diet, and when going home was told to use full fat milk with full fat dried milk mixed in on top!
More Vitamin D in full-fat milk is a good reason to use it, let alone the other health benefits.
Maybe I'll do some digging and see if it's worth proposing. Mind you I would have to get an answer right to pose it, so don't hold your breath!Only if you know the answer!
