I'm making what is likely to be my last train ride for a while

We do seem to be going damn slowly. Is there any blanket speed restriction?

I don't see why there'd be any speed restriction; it's not a zombie apocalypse (yet)! Maybe you're just on Northern?

Cross country. It's a one stop journey I make daily-or did. Definitely slower both BUT to DBY and back the other way.

What was the journey time? What train were you on? Was the train on time?

The 8.21 this morning was definitely late. I got the 10.38 back the other way and to be honest I had other things on my mind but we were definitely going much slower than normal.

Only ESR I think on currently is a 60mph just north of Burton but it’s one bridge and shouldn’t affect timings too much.

The 08:21 looks as though it was following a very late running freight train.

The 0821 was following a fright train which was 5 hours late. Also the run into Derby would possibly be under caution signals due to the Crewe service being in platform 3 already. The 1038 was only 1 min late into Burton and would of had no caution signals as the 1030 Plymouth was already at Clay Mills when the 1038 was leaving Derby.

Thank you everyone. Yes I saw the frighteningly late freight train but didn't make the connection. And yes we were particularly slow going into Derby

All those factors coupled with my general nerves and anxiety I suffer from probably made me think we were going a lot slower than we were.I

Anyway so long railway. Catch you on the flip side. Stay safe and healthy all those who work on there. :)

Within earshot of trains passing the one and half
As a technical point of order, all main line railway in the UK has a speed restriction and has done since we moved away from only signing and publishing speeds lower than "linespeed" and gave every bit of track a "permissible speed*".

* or differential permissible speed, non-standard differential permissible speed** or enhanced permissible speed
** or declared ourselves Scottish and made our own rules up
