How do I convince someone these new rules apply to them?

Got a call from one of my mates this morning asking why I wasn't at his place as I said I would be, we have got a "project " on at the moment, I said haven't you seen the news, we are in lockdown, his reply was absolutely staggering. "Who says we are, and how are they going to enforce it?" "They aren't going to stop me doing what I want to do".
I just can't get my head round it, he has underlying health issues so you would think he would be taking extra care, but no he's just carrying on as normal, apparently he was all over the place yesterday sourcing parts for our project, he even visited another friend who has just come out of hospital and can't understand why they didn't answer the door!
Hopefully when he gets the text message from the government, which we are all going to get apparently, it may sink in.
Anyone else come across such idiotic behaviour?

Plenty ignoring distancing advice at supermarkets still.

Maybe because some people realize that if we do not fight the governments over this, what is affective medical Martial Law, we will be living under Chinese laws on steroids? Lets not beat around the bush, and call it out for what it is. A police state, and a clampdown on all our freedoms.

And to start you down the rabbit hole here is an article regarding Italy and how many REAL cases there are of Coronavirus. https://off-guardian.org/2020/03/23/italy-only-12-of-covid19-deaths-list-covid19-as-cause/

Dont talk rubbish - If people wont do it when asked then they need to be forced to as they are putting others lives at risk. If someone runs a red light and kills someone do you applaud them for "sticking to the man?"
If your house was broken into would you not be peeved - or does this only matter if you are directly impacted.
Why have any rules in the first place. Lets just have a free for all.

The fact you think these rules dont or should not apply means you are part of the problem and the reason we will probably end up with harsher restrictions in place.

If everyone played nice it would not need to happen. Now people are throwing the toys out of the pram as they seem to think as they are going to be ok and others will die - its not their problem. People will have caused the unneeded death of others.

As of now, the 'lockdown' has no legal status so he is technically correct. Whether his actions are sensible ......

Jesus. Follow the rules and the virus will fizzle out in a few weeks/months as it stops spreading. That’s what’s happened in China where it’s already starting to get back to normal.

Keep spreading it throughout the population and you’ll be on “lockdown” for a year.

I've been burgled twice, so yes I was peeved. however, that was no action of mine and is usually a crime of opportunity.

Let's just say this bill they passed without a democratic vote last night lasts for two years, as was stated in parliament last night, would you be happy to be on lockdown (martial law as it is to be enforced by the police) for that long? Would you be happy for the government to put us on lockdown every time they deem something to be a crisis?

I'd say the problem is not those who critically think, I'd say it is those who consume mainstream media and swallow it. Need I remind you that it was actually mainstream media that prompted the government to put the UK under lockdown by tittle-tattling and basically wetting their pants at a total lockdown. Since when did the media dictate what the government did?

I'll give you a real eye witness example of how ridiculous this whole thing is. I live in Malta. Sunday we had 17 new cases, as with Monday. Today we had 3 new cases, I thought this was spreading at an exponential level? I even drove passed the main hospital here a few times as part of my job. Now bearing in mind this hospital on weekdays is full to capacity. Nope, tumbleweeds today. Where's the crisis.

And to prove just how ridiculous this all is please look at the rules for construction workers, It is almost laughable https://www.theguardian.com/politic...wn-gove-tries-to-clarify-confusion-over-rules

People don't die OF viruses. They die of other conditions which the virus causes, or if they have underlying conditions, which the virus exacerbates and kills them. If someone has become very ill as a result of being infected with coronavirus, but the heart disease that they had been fighting now kills them, it is entirely sensible to count them as having died because of the coronavirus. This is standard medical practice.

No one likes having their freedom clamped down upon, but sometimes (and this is the first time ever that anything as draconian has happened), we have to accept these restrictions for the greater good. The alternative is far, far worse
