I've been putting my bag on the seat next to me to enforce the mandatory 2m social distancing. usually I would never do this. But when it's got busy, I've had to argue with other passengers who want to sit down.

So too many passengers / trains too short / too few trains?
Too many people who think they’re indispensible?

Or too many managers who think they are indispensable and their staff are cannon fodder.

Or that.

I think regarding busy trains people need to be sensible, though. Logic would probably say take a double seat to a person first, spreading out as much as possible, then a row of standees spaced 2m apart down the aisle. Once that's happened, though, the next thing to do is to start taking the second seats, as a crowd in the vestibules would be worse.

The easier bit would be longer trains I suppose? As in less labour intensive compared to more trains?

& since times immemorial graveyards have been full of indispensable people.

People have been putting bags on seats even way before Covid-19 started. It's very common practice on the Birmingham - Leicester line anyway.

Out of interest, where are these busy trains? On my local route, there seems to be virtually nobody travelling, and from pictures I've seen, Leeds and York are like ghost stations.
