Anybody know anything about internal door knobs? They have become loose on one of our internal doors. Checked on google but still struggling to work out how to tighten. As far as I can see there are no hidden screws and neither do the two knobs unscrew.

Are you sure there is not a screw underneath the door knob - probably quite a small discrete screw? In essence, there is a bar through the door into each door handle - the bar has a square profile at the ends. This bar turns the 'tooth' on the side of the door which allows the door to remain shut.

Alternatively, I have door handles with a round plate on the door held by 4 screws. Undoing these screw removes the door handle, and the door handle is held in place on the round plate by a 'U' bracket which slides out with a bit of effort.

Are you saying the door knobs are loose or the full door plate with the knob attached? Oh and they are knobs not handles I assume?
The knobs are attached directly to the door. Yes knobs.

Trying to work out how to post an image here.

Quite a few screwless doorknob removal videos on YouTube. Pretty much you are going to have to remove the faceplate off the doorknob and reveal the screws underneath. There are a couple of variants. Some have an integral faceplate when you unscrew directly others you can simply pop off with a flathead screwdriver.

I don't think I can post a pic as I don't have a URL for it.

If you can go on the forum on your phone then tap ‘upload a file’ just below where you type a reply it’ll let you download it directly from your photo album.

Edit - What Dave said.

OK, so it looks like that brass bit could probably be popped off the door using a flathead screwdriver (carefully).

There will then be screws underneath.
That's the bit that is loose. There is a gap between the brass bit and the door itself.

I've circled a bit. Can you depress that with a screwdriver. It looks like its a lock of sorts

Looking at that picture the handle stem is tapered so I suspect that you may have to pop the end cap off the knob to gain access to the fixing screw. It may only be on one side so have a gander to see if there is a little slot on one knob. That allows you to remove the moving bit then you can see if the facia plate just needs a tap to relocate it or the tabs need a bit of adjustment. You have tried seeing if the facia plate screws on?

Your second picture looks like it is screwed through from the other side of the door (the spiral on the screw) so maybe its the other side that needs removing first.

Alternatively, try rotating the brass ring - it may screw onto a plate which is fixed to the door with woodscrews. Or not fixed, in this case.

Aha! Sorted. The brass part of one of the knobs does unscrew. For some reason it took about a million turns to take it off but only a few to screw it back on.

The infantile part of me is chuckling that someone, somewhere, has possibly googled ‘knob pictures’ this evening and landed on this site

Reading though this I was ready to type 'it should unscrew', then you worked it out, jolly good! You tend to find that when the door's repainted the knob isn't unscrewed as it should be, so the two parts get painted together and can be very difficult to part sometimes.

The potential for "screw off knob" jokes is perhaps just as great as the above!:lol:
