I passed the DMI with metro back in November. Didn't get chosen to be sent for psychometrics but told I'd be kept in a pool. Does anyone know how long metro keep people in this pool for before having to start the process over again?

Is it 9 months before you have to re-apply?

Impression I got from interview is they didn't want to keep going through the application process so would just keep drawing candidates from the pool when and if required for next year or 2

Why?

after it has blown over. How will the millions of people get to work who previously travelled by train . We need drivers, and still do. All because of a virus we stop recruiting i dont think so.
Lner just posted trainee driver job yesterday. Everything is just paused till this is over. Everyone chill and sit tight. The world isnt ending. Trains arent disapearing

Excellent. Had you already passed psychometric tests ?
Yeah I passed with Northern but no job offer from them so metro have offered me place on course.

I did contact Northern last week to enquire if any movement on course & none in foreseeable I was told so...

Email this afternoon with an update. Everything is on hold currently but will go ahead eventually, but currently no timescale is given

Did anyone who received the email yesterday also get another email with the practice material?

I did a test at Doncaster back in early Dec, but failed on the last test! That was for DB. Was absolutely gutted! Hopefully it's a good sign, not just something to keep us occupied!

yeah I got them too! Have you passed the tests already?
I used to drive for Metro, just having a nose on here! Sure once the world gets back to normal that they'll look to do a load of tests to get some training schools in.

Hope so as I’m itching to get a new start away from NHS now.

Hi everyone!

When things have calmed down i'm going to look to update the CV and hopefully get a career in the rail industry going. Wether it's a driver or something else it doesn't matter, i've wanted to do it since I was young and with me getting close to 30 I think it's time to ignore pessimism and just go for it.

I've got a career I enjoy as a taxi driver but while I do enjoy it, i'm not sure if it's what I want to do for the rest of my working life.

If anyone has any tips for the application then it would be most appreciated. Especially the bit where it asks for a small essay close to the end.

If you are starting on any training courses then all the best!

correct me if I'm wrong here but I don't think the Tyne and Wear Metro is currently recruiting for trainee drivers.
Are you perhaps applying for a different company?

Even if they're not recruiting at the moment, it's a good idea to have a CV ready in case they do advertise in the future. That way you can either send it straightaway, as some adverts get taken down very quickly, or make some minor tweaks before sending away.

metro dont ask for cv's it specifically asked not to send one and your application would be discarded if you did

Whatever I can get to be honest. Mostly want to get my CV together so I can type it in to any applications I might submit.

It's definitely a good idea to plan ahead. Have a read through some of the many threads on this forum. I've found there's some great advice on here about CVs and also interviews and psychometric tests.

Thank you!

Only thing I probably need help with is that little eassy they make you do. Think it's about leadership IIRC.
