Hi

I’m currently waiting for a date for a medical for a trainee driver position.
I’ve got start date for training but just wondered if medigold are able to do medicals with the current Covid-19 situation?
Id be grateful if anyone has any recent experience ?

I had one last week. No mention of Covid-19 affecting the appointments at that point.

My own TOC decided today that all medicals are cancelled, apparently. We use medigold.

Regardless of TOC / FOC I suspect in light of Boris’ announcement a new starter medical may not be classed as essential. Obviously the post asking the question VV1234 posed was before the announcement was aired.

Yes I asked the question earlier today and obviously realise quite rightly it’s not by any means a priority n

Got my periodical medical tomorrow and I have to travel miles to do it so it seems they're definitely going ahead

Ah ok thanks for letting me know.
I’ve told the HR department at the TOC that I’m willing to drive to whatever location they can get me booked in at. Obviously being responsible and safe and not stopping unnecessarily anywhere. thanks for your reply.

Just an update. I’ve got an email saying the medial is on 8th April.
There is a bit on the form saying if you have any symptoms of Covid-19 not to attend so it looks like they are working but understandably having to be extra careful that people don’t attend if they shouldn’t.

I had mine today and the nurse told me that they've been told if the railway is still running we need to be here.

Pretty conclusive there.

I have had my medical with medigold next week cancelled until further notice. They will be in touch when they can commence again.

I had mine (periodic) and I'm glad I did. Without an up to date medical, my competency would expire :/

My Medigold center was being told to 'work from home' They were obviously confused how that would be possible. My TOC has been told that some medicals will be carried out via telephone; again, Christ knows how that will happen.

With my toc , aslef if I read it correctly , posted that medicals will be done by phone. This will then allow a driver six months extension . They will then need to have a proper medical. I guess that could be the same for you.

I can't see how a medical that requires eyesight, hearing, drug and alcohol, ECG, BMI and blood pressure testing can be done down a phone line?

Just re read the email. Definitely say's that it will be done over the phone and will last six months , then any driver's that had a phone medical will need to have a physical one after this has blown over.

I've opened a case with the RSSB and will hopefully get an answer. We haven't had any communication from ASLEF or the company regarding competence.

Probably something in the emergency legislation allowing extensions - just like they have extended the deadline for any MOT tests that are due.

Can I ask which TOC’s are allowing a 6 month extension and phone call medicals?

Cheers
