Romford is 2 per hour, one Southend and one Colchester Town. But meanwhile the all stations service at both Ilford and Romford has doubled from every 20 minutes to every 10 minutes.
I doubt many Ilford and Romford commuters would see that as an improvement.

Longer station stops, as slam doors are no more: an additonal 30sec at each station adds up to 9min.
I thought one of the side benefits of phasing out slam doors was a reduction in dwell time at stations.

It was, and those of us who remember sliding door trains in the 1960s (mine were on Merseyside) will recall how quick they were at stations. Quite where the current hoopla and timewasting came from, both opening and closing, goodness knows.

It may just have been TfL padding the timetable to make it easier to achieve good time keeping statistics!

Going to stick my neck out and say the Island Line - ran at least half hourly rather than the current 20/40 split, with additional pier shuttles IIRC.

Were they booked less than 20sec, which was SR standard?
Agree with your 2nd sentence!
