I am sure this has been answered before, but if you have passed the psychometrics to the national standard, but need to re-do some to meet the standard LNER require - what would happen to your national result if you subsequently failed the attempt for LNER?

I am in a position where I am waiting for a training course with another operator - but have put my hat in the ring for this (telephone interview next week) - I'd rather pull out at this point and stick with the safe option of playing the waiting game rather than risk it for this post.

I’m pretty sure that your most recent result is the one they use. I.e if you took the assessments again to try and achieve the enhanced mark and failed to meet even the industry standard mark, then you’d lose your previously held pass mark for the standard result

From reading multiple other threads I’m pretty sure this is correct. If you passed and have to retake them just make sure you don’t get complacent and I’m sure you’ll be fine :)

Thanks for that! Not heard of the role play before! Hopefully I get to skip it if fortunate enough to progress!
UPDATE- got this email back from HR.

The next stages are;
Stage 1 psychometrics
Assessment centre
Stage 2 psychometrics

We will be doing a check of the RACF database to ensure that candidates have reached our ENHANCED level and provided they have within the last 5 years, you would skip those stages
I am assuming from stage 2 psychometric tests follows the DMI or is the DMI part of the assessment centre?

No the MMI was at the end of the stage 2 day for me. The DMI was a week or so later as a stand alone. Gut wrenching to fail at that point but we live and learn!

mmi and dmi mean ?
MMI - multi-modal interview, part of the railway standard psychometric testing.
DMI - driver manager interview. A more standard interview, some competency questions and some about the company.

Surprised you don't know that considering you have 500 post count and have been on here 10 years.

I've just done my phone interview, not sure whether I've done enough I feel like I'm borderline yes/no. It basically went the way others have described it:
- the interviewer is good and tries to put you at ease
- took around 20 mins
- mentioned 4 weeks to hear a result
- to directly quote the person on the phone: "the stages after that are two psychometric tests an assessment centre and an interview". Not entirely sure how to interpret that.
- edit: they also called me 7 minutes early

Hi All,
First time poster so here goes. My friend who is currently a trainee driver with another TOC was today told on his telephone interview that LNER will not take on any other TOCs trainees. Has anyone else heard about this. I too am a trainee with another TOC and am due to have the telephone interview. We both put in our applications that we were trainees at another TOC. Any advice would be fantastic. Thanks in advance.

They called me bang on time. As others have said it was a relaxed conversation and fortunately, no curve balls thrown in. I had 10 different examples written out covering a range of experiences I've had and I got to use 5 of them to fit the question he asked. All in all very relaxed, it lasted 25 minutes and I feel I gave it the best I could. So if not selected, I will not be too upset as I gave the best answers I could.
Good luck to all of you ,as sometimes in this process you need a little bit.

That’s a difficult one to be honest.

It may be worth trying to get in touch with LNER directly to clarify? Can’t see your current TOC being too pleased if you leave part way through your training.

why would you want to waste your TOC time and money to jump ship ?
I guess all TOCS have the same rule

I'm getting a bit ahead of myself but following on from some of the chat earlier,

It would make perfect sense that they wouldn't be interested in somebody that is willing to do that to another TOC. What's to say that you wouldn't do the same to them?

Agree completely with this sentiment. I think everyone on this thread would give their right arm to be in your position. I personally wouldn’t be looking at other TOC’s before I’d finished training. It’s your life though.

I don't think you should retract your application just because you have previously worked hard to get into the current position you are in, just my opinion though

I withdrew my interview and application today. With everything else going on i’d prefer someone else to get my interview slot....no point going through with it if my hearts not in it and my gut instinct says not to.

Best of luck to you all though....the railway is an awesome place to work.

Had my interview. Was going to post after it at an earlier daye but didnt want to identify myself.

I found it very much like my MMI in regards to the questions asked.

I cant tell if i did good enough but in 4 weeks ill find out i guess.

In regards to driving licence, I was only asked if i had a method of transport to get to the depot. I mention my method and it was accepted. So who knows why people may of been dumped out of the process for not having a driving licence. Maybe they mentioned they would not be able to get to the depot or home at unsocialable hours.

There might be a question mark over why you’re looking to change TOCs at such an early stage. I’d ask them during the interview, if you’re given the opportunity to do so.

Presumably they are aware that you’re currently training at another TOC from your application form?

I completely disagree with this.

If the previous poster feels there’s a better opportunity on offer at LNER why shouldn’t he or she go for it?

The opinions of applicants who are out of work/aren’t yet in the industry are completely irrelevant.

Assuming you've already started your training then I hope you're aware you'd be eligible to pay back all training costs to the TOC as per the contract you've signed?

I understand the position you may be in, but the sensible thing here would be to complete your training and work for the TOC for a few years, then look to move elsewhere. From years of lurking around these forums and reading posts from some HR insiders, I understand that most TOCs appear to have some kind unwritten "pact" to not hire trainees from other TOCs. That's just speculation though, of course... ;)
