The Southern Electric Group are very knowledgable on all Southern EMU matters. I think they've got a website. There's also a KentRail website which has some info.

Also there are loads of good books on the subject. And some on here might know.

S Yorks, usually
The RCTS coaching stock books (sometimes available second hand online) list EMU formations. Which generation are you enquiring about, and which SR (Region or Railway)?

When you say first generation, do you mean the sets the LSWR and LBSC built, or are you looking for something later

Anything particular from
MLV, TLV,
2BIL, EPB, HAL, HAP, NOL, NOP, PEP, SAP,
4BEP, BIG, BUF, CEP, CIG, COR, EPB, LAV, PEP, PUL, REP, RES, SUB, TC, VEP, VEG,
5BEL
6CIT, PAN, PUL

or BR coded units : 319, 365, 375, 376, 377, 442, 455, 456, 458, 460, 508, 701, 707,

Probably missed a few, apologies

Here goes:
despite its name, this site https://www.bloodandcustard.com/ has a vast amount of info about most (not yet all) Southern Electric stock.
There's also the SR E-group site http://semgonline.com/?LMCL=Sig8_o
and SEG: http://www.southernelectric.org.uk/
there are 2 big books by David Brown "Southern Electric" published Capital Transport about 10 years ago.

I assumed "first generation" to be Southern Region EMUs (ie EP stock) by analogy with "first generation" DMMUs, but that may not be what the OP meant.
There's little practical distinction between the small number of new-build pre-grouping units and the SR suburban sets which were rebuilt steam stock. The SR main line units were another matter.
