How else do you suggest the cost of news gathering is paid for?
There's no need for adverts athat are intrusive, moving, loud or videos that instantly start up. If ads were the complete opposite - still, taxt-only, top or bottom of the page then I wouldn't need to install adblock.
It's the same on TV, immediate loud shouty in-your-face ads that force one to either mute or change the channel so I never get to see them - so the purpose is defeated,

Couldn't agree more, they just irritate people. I deliberately wouldn't buy anything advertised in this way.

Another thing about this current situation - does anyone else miss waking up on a Friday and immediately checking whether the Advance tickets you're waiting for have been released?

I was hoping to travel by plane for the first time in my life on the 24th March, however that never happened for obvious reasons. I think as soon as there is some lifting of restrictions, I'd be happy to just book a last minute flight to wherever's cheapest, so I can tick that box. Could just be a day return trip to somewhere in the UK for example.

An advance ticket I'd love to wake up to right now would be a short walk to the Victoria (pub) and back - with refreshment in the middle. For those of you who are local, it's better known by another name!!! What I'd give for that right now.

Lol I remembered where you're from, and found the nickname! :E I won't even ponder on why it's called that.

Before this all got properly serious, plan was for a family rail trip around Europe in August. It remains to be seen whether things will have eased sufficiently by then for it to go ahead, but its the one possible speck of light at the end of a very long tunnel right now...

I might try myself but I am so cack handed I am worried about becoming a strain on the nhs!!!!!

Have a go tomorrow...if you **** it up, at least nobody will see you for a while.... :)

What worries ma about a long trip - if everyone gets the chance - is falling ill with CV over there, and not being allowed home by plane (although rail might be OK). Still hoping myself to have two short breaks in Ibiza and maybe add another one, so if I'm OK going out then I'm hoping to be OK.

I was more worried about becoming a Van Gogh tribute act!
Yeah that wouldn’t be good. o_O
I’m going fully native for a few weeks, although I did trim my beardy face today.

Go to the pub!

In all seriousness, I will be intending to visit more heritage railways. They will need every bit of custom they can possibly get.

Me too, the above, (Plus hugs). I miss not being able to go to my local pub at the moment and also plan to visit heritage railways, more locally the Mid Hants and Bluebell firstly, by Network rail, then further afield NYMR & perhaps the S&CRly either by service trains or steam charters if they restart. Also hopefully London to Amsterdam and back on the new return through trains hopefully. Keep well and safe everybody.

There's plenty of stuff on google about cutting your own hair, even if you don't have the proper equipment. I think the trick is that rather than pudding bowl it you lift each section between your fingers and snip along the ends. Could make for some trendy new styles!

If you live with someone you could do eachother's.

The online Guardian has a headline that lockdown could be eased at the end of May - basically if everyone keeps their distance and behaves. 2 weeks gone, 8 to go? And that's not at promise it's a hope. And it doesn't say what the easing entails.

I think they will have to find ways of easing lockdown before then - I'm going crazy already. Not got much more useful life left and it's ticking away through no fault of my own.

The worry is that those of us in, what shall we say, the latter third of our expected lives, may never get sufficiently motivated to resume our previous activities. So easy to turn into a stay-at-home couch potato. We will have to motivate eachother on here!

Yes, just before CV I had obtained a membership form for my local bowls/snooker club, £50 annual subs and just up the road, and full of old-timers (like me!) in the afternoons. Great for socialising. Until your post I'd completely forgotten about that. Personally on a health/fitness diary, my first priority will be to resume attempting to play hockey next September!

I am getting to the point of needing a haircut. I would much rather wait and go to a professional than do a botch job myself. I'll just get an Alice band so I don't have hair in my eyes and I can see where I am going!

I reckon as a bloke I'd look pretty silly walking down the street wearing an Alice band. :D

I don’t know. My brother didn’t look awful in the short time he wore one. Granted he didn’t just let his hair grow without a cut for months on end though. :D

Will the population of London and the South East fall as many graduates from the provinces find that they can work from home and only have to go to their London offices on occasion meaning that they'll return? Many young graduates move to London for a couple of years purely for the "London experience" however these numbers may diminish and they choose to stay in/near their home towns after graduation. Obviously people will still move up and down the country for actual studies; if anything this may actually increase rather than people attending college or Uni in their home town.
