Mmm, the abercynon job seems to have disappeared??

If enough people apply it auto closes, also Core Valley Lines transferred to TfW Infrastructure Co last weekend so that MIGHT have something to do with it.

Although signalling staff remain Network Rail staff for another year I think it is.

Been and gone.

Its not automatically closed. When there have been lots of applications HR will contact the hiring manager and ask if they would like it to be closed early. Its their decision what happens.

Yeah good idea, I think you need to clear your cache etc from your internet browser too, if you’re having problems.

Thank you for your response, is the course really that difficult? Can I ask did everyone on your course pass? I am slightly worried about the course as I have no previous rail experience and have such a lot to loose if I don’t make the grade.

It's not that the subject itself is hard it's just the sheer speed u need to grasp an understanding of such a large amount of information in such a short amount of time. Plus the pressures of having to pass the 3 exams. As the saying went on our course, it's not a 'turn up and pass course'. Just giving you a heads up that you will quite probably have to work hard at it to pass. And any distractions whatsoever will certainly hinder your chances. Out of 10 of us 1 quit at week 5 and 1 failed the final exam and had to go back 2 weeks.

P.S. I was in the same boat as you, no previous experience and nothing to fall back on so in that sense was probably my own worst enemy. Had to much to lose so put unnecessary pressure on myself. But as long as you work hard and revise on the evebings i'm sure you will be fine.

Again thank you for your experience of the course. I am also probably putting extra pressure on myself so I need to just go, work hard and try to enjoy the course!

Big change to application process for nwr!

What will the process be…

Application - completed on our career's portal, you'll need an up to date CV

Application questions - completed online, you'll need 10 minutes in a safe, quiet spot where you are comfortable typing short answers to a handful of questions about your interest and understanding of the Signaller role

Virtual assessment - you'll take part in in an online assessment. Don't worry we'll provide more information on how to prepare for an assessment closer to the time

Video interview - you'll receive a video call from our interviewers to talk through your skills and experiences in more detail. You'll need to show your identification documents virtually, we will provide more guidance on this before the interview.

Offer - you'll receive a call from our Careers Team to discuss further details including salary, benefits and your medical declaration

Pre-employment Screening - you'll need to provide some documents to prove your identity and right to work in the UK

Induction - you'll receive more information about your Signaller training closer to the time

Oh now they change it, after I spent a day doing my 70 questions!

That does sound better in all fairness. I’m assuming the interview will follow the same format of NTS and Safety Vision?

Not sure if it's for all roles or just this specific one though

Good old HR...8-)

If it's any consolation when I do my ongoing rules and knowledge assessment there's usually about 30 pages of questions.

Obviously I’m guessing the recruitment change will only be temporarily? Until this covid blows over

Hi Amanda, where has this come from?

The change only appears on one Grade 2 future opportunity role that I can see (IRC2181167). It also comes with the following caveat

Covid19

Your well-being and the health and safety of our workforce is our top priority, we are following guidance from Public Health England and are taking extra precautions to reduce risk. This means all interviews & assessments will be held virtually.

You'll be required to complete a handful of online pre-application questions. You'll need 10 minutes in a safe, quiet spot where you are comfortable writing short and concise answers.

So it would appear this is only during current world events, and only for certain vacancies.

I'm even more impatient than I was before waiting for short listing news/new vacancies/updates from hr. Being sat at home gives you too much time to think!!!! I suppose it shows how much I desperately want to be a part of the signaller community

Just received an e-mail saying signaller school is re starting next week for all candidates and so still due to go ahead- perhaps with smaller class sizes. Also to bear with them and wait for clarification

I’m not sure how it would be possible to continue with signalling school under the current circumstances?

From this post on 31st March
